This study examines heap leach recovery based on the particle size distribution and compaction of crushed ore piles. It finds that finer ore particles increase leaching efficiency by providing a larger surface area for contact with leaching solutions, while coarser particles allow for greater permeability. However, compaction and segregation of particles can impact leaching by creating preferential pathways for fluid flow or isolating particles from contact. The study models hydraulic properties and fluid flow within ore piles to evaluate segregation risk and optimize design for efficient leaching.
This lecture provides an overview of the issues influencing dilution in an underground production environment.
The lecture reviews the dilution problem throughout the entire mining process, and provides a rational approach to underground mine design in order to minimize dilution.
The stages contributing to dilution include orebody delineation, design and sequencing, stope development, drilling and blasting, production and mine management issues.

BrightWater is a gel treatment polymer flooding in which a tightly bounded, thermally activated particle injected as a dilute slug which flows with the water and pops open deep in the reservoir and blocks the swept zones under the effect of high temperature. Its aim is to achieve more efficient sweep of the oil to the producing wells causing flow diversion by swelling and agglomerating of micro gel particles in the injection water.
This course is designed to develop skills in understanding the geometry and petrophysical characteristics of carbonate reservoirs. Depositional fabric, grain type and size and subsequent diagenetic modifications are the major controls on carbonate reservoir behaviour. The complex inter-relationship of the depositional and burial history can be unravelled to allow prediction of reservoir facies and reconstruction of three-dimensional reservoir models. The course demonstrates the value of the reservoir model in volumetric assessment and development of carbonate reservoirs. Extensive practical sessions can utilise your own data or Robertson CGG Company’s extensive non-exclusive data.
