Small Town Summits was formed to help fill small places in New England with gospel-centered churches through regional conferences and training events. They host one-day summits that provide training and encouragement for small-town church leaders. They also create resources like a podcast and articles to support these leaders. They are seeking to expand their work by assembling a partner team of leaders in each state, pursuing publishing opportunities, and hiring an executive director, though they need financial support to do so.
The Seventh-day Adventist Church as a global organisation is designed to place the local church in the driving seat when it comes to mission and leadership. Every 4-5 years (5 years globally) we elect administrators to serve the global movement to equip, resource and build the capacity of members towards mission.
In the run up to the 63rd Session of South England Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, Luke Whyte, Leader of Templeway Church conducted a 30-day satirical campaign to be elected as president of the South England Conference and in the process; stimulated cross-generational dialogue and engagement in the workings of the church as an organisation, set out a compelling manifesto for change and highlighted some of the more subtle and insidious challenges within the cultures and dynamics of our church as an organisation.
In the eventuality of winning, Luke was fully prepared and ready to execute a clear mission and compelling vision. Although NEVER done before in the Seventh-day Adventist context, Luke Whyte created and presented his manifesto, all through social media. He solicited feedback, responded and clarified where necessary.
Here is that manifesto.

The North Roanoke Baptist Association has made enormous progress, but as we look into the future, there is much that needs to be done to become a healthy, effective organization. It is time to take another step to fulfill our potential. In the future, association ministry will once again be the essential organization for cooperative in Southern Baptist Life.
We have very capable pastors and ministry leaders serving on our various ministry teams. They can develop innovative ideas for ministry; but only God knows the strategy for our unique circumstance which will strengthen churches, unite us in ministry, and enable us to fulfill the Great Commission. As we seek Him by praying together and dare to depend upon Him to guide us, He will give direction. We will see God working in our circumstances by opening new doors of opportunity and bringing new people and resources across our paths. When we then take a step of faith based on what God has revealed, we sill see Him do the miraculous. This is the amazing adventure of living in obedience to Him.
In a world that is becoming more confused and disoriented in the darkness of sin and desperation - this level of obedience will be required in order to have an effective witness of the power of God.
We are proud to present to you the First Presbyterian Church of Jackson 2022 Annual Report. It’s important to note: this report and all the data in it reflect the state of our church at the end of 2022. Our desire is that this report serves as a sample of a fuller report that will continue to be released early each year.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.
1. We invite you to partner with us to help
fill the small places of New England
with gospel-centered,
community-engaged churches
and Christian workers,
for the glory of God.
SMALLTOWNSUMMITS.COM
2. Small Town Summits was formed in partnership with the
Gospel Coalition New England in early 2018 with a desire to
see all of New England filled with gospel-centered, community-
engaged churches and Christian workers, for the glory of God.
New England, the land of the Great Awakenings and the
religious seedbed of America, is now largely post-Christian,
secular, and the least religious region of the country. It is also
largely comprised of small-town, rural, out-of-the-way places.
We love New England and the local church, and we believe
that a key way to reach our region with the gospel
is to serve the churches and leaders already serving
in New England’s small places.
Over the past five years
God has used Small Town Summits
in the following ways:
Gospel Fruit in Small Places
What God has done
We partner with churches and leaders
on the ground to host small, regional,
one-day gatherings. These Summits
are highly collaborative in nature,
drawing upon the gifts of local leaders
to provide training, encouragement,
and connection for those who attend.
Over the past five years, we have
hosted ten regional gatherings
across all six New England states.
SUMMITS
We host one-day Women’s Bible
Training seminars. These events seek
to equip women in small places with
a variety of skills that will help them
rightly study and apply God’s Word
for themselves. We then seek to
empower them to take these skills
home to the small places and help
others learn to do the same.
TRAININGS
RESOURCES
We create gospel-centered,
theologically-rich content that speaks
to the unique joys and struggles of
serving Christ in small places. Our
podcast and articles share small-town
voices and speak to the particular needs
of rural pastors and laypeople. Our own
Stephen Witmer’s book, A Big Gospel in
Small Places, also grew directly out of
the ministry of Small Town Summits.

3. While much of New England lies spiritually desolate,
God is at work, and his gospel is flourishing through the faithful
efforts of his servants in big and small places. While we regularly
hear stories of the hardships of pastoral ministry in small-town
New England, we also hear stories of how God is continuing his
work across our region. He is breaking into hard-to-reach places
through the work of his small and scattered church.
There’s an excitement around our Summits because of the
training, encouragement, and connection they provide.
And yet, in spite of the desire and need for more Summits,
the small size of our leadership team has
limited their scope and frequency.
Because of this, we believe that God is leading us
to take the following steps to better serve those
seeking to reach New England for the gospel:
Gospel Opportunity
Where God is Leading Us We are seeking to leverage the relationships we’ve built
with faithful pastors and leaders from across New England
to create the STS Partner Team, comprised of men from
each of the six New England states. This team will help us
multiply our regional Summits as well as our online resources.
ASSEMBLING OUR STS PARTNER TEAM
We hope to draw upon our growing network of small-town
writers in order to pursue new publishing ventures
for those serving in the small places.
PURSUING PUBLISHING
We’ve hired our first Executive Director to help oversee the
increased programming and operations of our ministry as we seek to
multiply our impact in the small places of New England.

4. Our Roadmap
Timeline and Financial Considerations
We’re seeking the Lord’s direction and his timing
for these initiatives. We’ve laid the following timeline at his feet,
and offer it here to you so you can join us in prayer
as he leads us on this path:
January - March 2022
STS Partner concept developed and Partner Team formed.
April 2022
Ben Ruhl hired as Executive Director to spearhead day-to-day
ministry operations and initiatives, and to provide leadership to
STS Partner Team for the coordination and implementation of
Summits in each region.
Spring / Summer 2022
Regular Summit, article, and podcast programming to continue.
Strong focus on financial and prayer partnership development to
support increase in Summit frequency beginning in 2023.
November 2022
STS Partner Team Retreat. We’ll gather the Partner Team for the
cultivation of vision for the road ahead, brotherhood for the
journey, and a plan for Summits and resources for 2023.
Our Invitation
Will You Join Us?
The work of supporting those serving Christ in the small places is urgent,
but we can’t do it alone.
Would you or your church consider partnering with STS financially
as we seek to reach and resource small-town pastors,
lay leaders, and churches throughout New England?
2022 Budget
$27,000
2023 Budget
$47,000
Includes our Executive Director’s
part-time salary from
April - December
Increase accounts for hosting a greater
number of summits and our Director’s
part-time salary for the full year
We feel it’s vital to the long-term effectiveness of our Summits
to keep registration costs low and affordable for those serving
and working in small places. Because of that, we run most of our
Summits at a deficit. We need regular, monthly financial partnerships
from churches and individuals who believe in what God is doing
through the ministry of STS to help us continue to
encourage and equip gospel ministers and disciple-makers
in New England’s small places.
We’d count it a great joy for you to join us in the work.
