January is always a month which brings some level of volatility, particularly with
employers of this size, as the holiday season winds down and winter weather begins to
disrupt broad economic activity. When taken within the context of prior years, however,
this January reading shows favorably, and with seasonal adjustment taken into account
the SBEI would represent a .02 percent growth in small business hiring.
