Sütlüce side of the beautiful Golden Horn in Istanbul on
Monday evening at the 5th World Water Forum.

Each section of the forum had security check points. This check
point was found in the middle of the bridge separating the two
sides of the Golden Horn.

The 5th World Water Forum was under way by the time that the
bridge was finished and these workers had a chance to mount
this creation on the newly built walking bridge.

The Gender and Water Alliance stand on the other side of the
river from the NGO village. It is a 20 minute walk between the
two.

Henk Holtslag interviewed in the Dutch Pavilion on low cost
technologies, which can be produced locally. Big Noise Films,
produced a report that was broadcasted by Democracy Now.

Also present were institutes like the Mexican institute of Water
Technology. Many private sector organisations stood in contrast
to the low cost, small scale technologies that Henk Holtslag was
promoting.

The French Water Partnership Pavilion was the source of a
constant buzz of activity. In the background, the Holland
Pavilion is also hosting presentations.

In the NGO village, opposite side of the river of the country
pavilions, the CGIAR Challenge Program introduces their work
to Turkish school children.

WASHCost is presented late in the evening to a small group of
invited participants in a session hosted by the Bill and Melinda
Gates Foundation. Feedback is positive albeit the hour!

IRC stand at the end of the day, shared with ODI and the RiPPLE
programme, in the NGO village. This stand was generously
provided for free, courtesy of the forum organisation.

Public lecture: Democratisation of Collections through Digitisation. The talk will be delivered by Simon Tanner, Senior Tutor in the Department of Digital Humanities, King’s College London, and Founding Director of King’s Digital Consultancy Services. In his talk Simon will explore how accelerating access to unique and distinct library content activates new areas of scholarship and teaching. He will also offer his insight, based on his extensive experience in the area, into the successful collaboration between Libraries, Academic Support areas and Digital Humanities scholars

Expo Milano 2015 was a six-month world's fair held in Milan, Italy from May 1 to October 31, 2015 to promote the theme "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life". The event involved 138 participating countries and regions and attracted over 21 million total visits. Considerable efforts were made to promote sustainability at the event, including using renewable energy, recycling and reuse of materials, green spaces, efficient water and lighting systems, and encouraging public transportation.

"Let's marathon!" Why to motivate the reuse of audiovisual archives

This article presents the argument that archivists and media scholars need to take on new practices, such as organizing hackathons or marathons, to facilitate the creative re-use of archival material. With these practices they could support the outreach of local communities and understand the nuances of reusing archival content to contextualize their records. In order to sustain this claim, I present one case study in which a group of international writers and video makers join forces to re-use audiovisual archive material in Helsinki, Finland. I unfold the limitations and opportunities that a one-day event presented to artists, archivists and media scholars, while collaborating and creatively re-using audiovisual archival material. The discussion uncovers issues pertaining to the facilitation of creative re-use as means for integration, the multicultural representation of the archives, the development of media literacy in collaborative processes and the challenges in the practice of legally reusing archival material.
