DNA is composed of two strands coiled around each other in a double helix shape. Each strand is made up of repeating units called nucleotides, which contain either the base adenine, cytosine, guanine or thymine. The two strands are held together by hydrogen bonds between the bases, with adenine always bonding to thymine and cytosine always bonding to guanine.
