Simon Peter by Boyvee GCF 04282019.pptx [Autosaved].pptx
1.
2. Simon Peter, also known as Cephas was one of
the first followers of Jesus Christ. He was an
outspoken and dedicated disciple, one of Jesus’
closest friend, an apostle. Peter was humble,
enthusiastic, determined, and, at times,
impulsive and reckless. But for all his strengths,
Peter had several blunders in his life. Still, the
Lord who chose him continued to loved him,
understand him, guide him and mold him into
exactly who He intended Peter to be.
3. Matthew 16:15 He said to them,
“But who do you say that I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the
Christ, the Son of the living God.”
17 And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you,
Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood
did not reveal this to you, but My Father
who is in heaven.
18 I also say to you that you are Peter, and
upon this rock I will build My church; and the
gates of Hades will not overpower it.
4.
5. John 1:40 One of the two who heard John
speak, and followed Him, was Andrew,
Simon Peter's brother.
John 1:41 He first found his own brother
Simon, and said to him, "We have found the
Messiah" (which is translated, the Christ).
John 1:42 And he brought him to Jesus.
Now when Jesus looked at him, He said,
"You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall
be called Cephas" (which is translated, A
Stone or Peter).
Simon first meet Jesus through the
help of his brother Andrew who was
a follower of John the Baptist.
6. HIS CALLING
Matthew 4:18 And Jesus, walking by the
Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon
called Peter, and Andrew his brother,
casting a net into the sea; for they were
fishermen. 19 Then He said to them,
“Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of
men.” 20 They immediately left
their nets and followed Him.
Luke 5:3 Then He got into one of the boats,
which was Simon's, and asked him to put
out a little from the land. And He sat down
and taught the multitudes from the boat.
5:4 When He had stopped speaking, He
said to Simon, "Launch out into the deep
and let down your nets for a catch."
7. HIS CALLING
Luke5:5 But Simon answered and said to
Him, "Master, we have toiled all night and
caught nothing; nevertheless at Your
word I will let down the net."
5:6 And when they had done this, they
caught a great number of fish, and their
net was breaking.
Luke 5:7 So they signaled to their
partners in the other boat to come and
help them. And they came and filled both
the boats, so that they began to sink.
THERE IS NO
FAVORITISM IN GOD
I Corinthians 1:26-27
Brothers, think of what you
were when you were called.
Not many of you were wise by
human standards; not many
were influential; not many were
of noble birth.
27 But God chose the foolish
things of the world to shame
the wise; God chose the weak
things of the world to shame
the strong.
8. HIS CALLING
Luke 5:8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell
down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Depart
from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!“
5:10 …And Jesus said to Simon, "Do not
be afraid. From now on you will catch
men.“
Luke 5:11 NIV So they pulled their boats
up on shore, left everything and followed
him.
HUMILITY IS
ESSENTIAL
James 4:10
Humble yourselves in the
sight of the Lord, and He
will lift you up.
IMMEDIATE RESPONSE IS
DIVINELY APPRECIATED
Ecclesiastes 11:4 GNB
If you wait until the wind and
the weather are just right, you
will never plant anything and
never harvest anything.
9. HIS NATURE
Luke 5:3 Then He got into one of the
boats, which was Simon's, and asked him
to put out a little from the land. And He sat
down and taught the multitudes from the
boat.
WILLING TO LEND
10. HIS NATURE
Luke 12:41 Then Peter said to Him, "Lord,
do You speak this parable only to us, or to
all people?"
Matthew 18:21 Then Peter came to Him
and said, "Lord, how often shall my brother
sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to
seven times?“
Matthew 15:15 Then Peter answered and
said to Him, "Explain this parable to us."
WILLING TO LEARN
WILLING TO LEND
11. HIS NATURE
Matthew 14:28 And Peter answered Him and
said, "Lord, if it is You, command me to come
to You on the water."
14:29 So He said, "Come." And when Peter
had come down out of the boat, he walked on
the water to go to Jesus.
WILLING TO RISK
WILLING TO LEARN
WILLING TO LEND
12. HIS NATURE
John 21:17 He said to him the third time,
"Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?"
Peter was grieved because He said to him
the third time, "Do you love Me?" And he
said to Him, "Lord, You know all things; You
know that I love You." Jesus said to him,
"Feed My sheep.
WILLING TO RISK
WILLING TO LEARN
WILLING TO LEND
WILLING TO BE
RESTORED
13. HIS BLUNDERS
Matthew16:22 Then Peter took Him
aside and began to rebuke Him, saying,
"Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not
happen to You!“
16:23 But He turned and said to Peter,
"Get behind Me, Satan! You are an
offense to Me, for you are not mindful of
the things of God, but the things of
men."
HE IS
OVER-CONFIDENT
2Corinthians 3:5 Not that
we are competent in
ourselves to claim
anything for ourselves,
but our competence
comes from God.
3:4 Such confidence as
this is ours through Christ
before God.
14. HIS BLUNDERS
Matthew 17:3 And behold, Moses and
Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.
Matthew 17:4 Then Peter answered and
said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be
here; if You wish, let us make here three
tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses,
and one for Elijah.“
Matthew 17:5 While he was still speaking,
behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them;
and suddenly a voice came out of the
cloud, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in
whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!"
HE TALKS BEFORE HE
THINKS
Ecclesiastes 5:2
Think before you
speak, and don't make
any rash promises to
God. He is in heaven
and you are on earth,
so don't say any more
than you have to.
15. HIS BLUNDERS
Matthew 26:31 Then Jesus said to them,
"All of you will be made to stumble
because of Me this night, for it is written:
'I will strike the Shepherd, And the sheep
of the flock will be scattered.‘
Matthew 26:33 Peter answered and said
to Him, "Even if all are made to stumble
because of You, I will never be made to
stumble.“
26:34 Jesus said to him, "Assuredly, I say
to you that this night, before the rooster
crows, you will deny Me three times.“
26:35 Peter said to Him, "Even if I have to
die with You, I will not deny You!" …
HE BOAST ABOUT HIS
LOVE
I Corinthians 1:31
Therefore, as the
Scriptures say, "If you
want to boast, boast
only about the LORD."
16. HIS BLUNDERS
Luke 22:57 But he denied Him, saying,
"Woman, I do not know Him."
58 …another saw him and said, "You also
are of them." But Peter said, "Man, I am
not!"
60 Man, I do not know what you are
saying!" Immediately, while he was still
speaking, the rooster crowed.
61 And the Lord turned and looked at
Peter. And Peter remembered the word of
the Lord, how He had said to him, "Before
the rooster crows, you will deny Me three
times."
62 So Peter went out and wept bitterly.
HE FEARS PEOPLE
MORE THAN GOD
Matthew 10:28 "And
do not fear those who
kill the body but
cannot kill the soul.
But rather fear Him
who is able to destroy
both soul and body in
hell.
17. HIS BLUNDERS
HE SI RECKLESS
John 18:10 Simon Peter, who had a sword,
drew it and struck the High Priest's slave,
cutting off his right ear. The name of the
slave was Malchus.
18:11 Jesus said to Peter, "Put your sword
back in its place! Do you think that I will
not drink the cup of suffering which my
Father has given me?"
19. HIS RESTORATION
John 21:17 NKJV
He said to him the third time, "Simon, son
of Jonah, do you love Me?" Peter was
grieved because He said to him the third
time, "Do you love Me?" And he said to
Him, "Lord, You know all things; You know
that I love You." Jesus said to him, "Feed
My sheep..
20. HIS RESTORATION
John 21:15-17 Amplified Version
21:15 When they had eaten, Jesus said to Simon Peter,
Simon, son of John, do you love (AGAPE) Me more than these
[others do--with reasoning, intentional, spiritual devotion,
as one loves the Father]? He said to Him, Yes, Lord, You
know that I love (PHILEO) You [that I have deep, instinctive,
personal affection for You, as for a close friend]. He said to
him, Feed My lambs.
21. HIS RESTORATION
21:16 Again He said to him the second time, Simon, son of
John, do you love (AGAPE) Me […as one loves the Father]?
He said to Him, Yes, Lord, You know that I love (PHILEO) You
[…as for a close friend]. He said to him, Shepherd (tend) My
sheep.
22. HIS RESTORATION
21:17 He said to him the third time, Simon, son of John, do you
love (Phileo) Me [as for a close friend]? Peter was grieved
(was saddened and hurt) that He should ask him the third time,
Do you love (Phileo) Me? And he said to Him, Lord, You know
everything; You know that I love (Phileo) You [as for a close
friend]. Jesus said to him, Feed My sheep.
24. ~Acts 2:41 Then those who gladly received his (Peter’s) word were
baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.
~Acts 3:6 Then Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do
have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and
walk." 3:7 And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and
immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.
~Acts5:15 so that they brought the sick out into the streets and laid
them on beds and couches, that at least the shadow of Peter passing
by might fall on some of them. 5:16 …and they were all healed.
HIS EMPOWERMENT
WHAT HAPPENED?
25. HIS EMPOWERMENT
Acts 2:1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one
accord in one place.
Acts 2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing
mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
Acts 2:3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat
upon each of them.
Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with
other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Acts 1:8 "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon
you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and
Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
26. YOU ARE EMPOWERED
John 1:12 But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave
the authority (power, privilege, right) to become the children of God
1Corinthians 3:16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God
and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
Romans 8:9b …Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he
is not His.
Colossians 1:26 This message was kept secret for centuries and
generations past, but now it has been revealed to God's people.
Colossians1:27b …And this is the secret: Christ lives in you.
27. Romans10:17 So then faith
comes by hearing, and hearing
by the word of God.
