The
Problem
Animals climb around substations and birds perch on transformers seeking a safe, warm
place to shelter and nest. Over 25% of all power outages are caused by wildlife and
vegetation interfering with electrical equipment.
Birds, cats, rats, snakes and even squirrels are all capable of causing power outages.
These occur when animals cause a phase to phase or phase-to-ground fault with their
body, often having painful and deadly consequences for the creatures itself.
The
Solution
The best solution to ensure the protection of the equipment and power lines, as well as the
animals, is to insulate the bare metalwork and create an environment for wildlife to roam
substations and overhead lines without damaging themselves or the equipment.
E/Products, our silicone extruded and moulded covers, are designed for electrical
substations, transmission and distribution lines to protect rail, data centers, OP&G, solar
and wind farms.

The
Problem
Corrosion is a serious concern in the utilities industry, where outdoor conditions
accelerate the spread of rust. Power plants, distribution lines and substations are built
under harsh weather conditions and temperatures, to which where metals such as steel
and aluminium are exposed.
The annual cost of corrosion comes to a total of $2.5 trillion*, which means corrosion in
utilities makes up for the larger part of annual industrial corrosion costs, namely 39.7%.
The
Solution
Our anti-corrosion coatings are formulated with silicone rubber to restore metal structures
and equipment on an advanced level.
Silprocoat™ is a ready-to-use product that can be sprayed immediately after opening the
pail and will last more than 10 years even in the most challenging environments.
The
Solution
 Unlike hard coatings, epoxy resins,
silicone rubber is soft and withstands
abrasion due to sand
 Silicone coating remains flexible
throughout its life
 Resistant to heat, humidity, chemicals,
salt spray and ultra-violet
 Unlike epoxy and urethane resins,
silicone is unaffected by ultraviolet

The Importance
 Saves cost as compared to conventional
protective paints
 Reduces the delivery period due to fast &
short painting process.
 Saves Manpower &Time
 Protects assets from production-
threatening consequences
 Applicable on Ferrous & Non-ferrous
metals.
The unique
Characteristics
 High UV light resistance
 Elasticity
 Extreme heat resistance (up to 160°C)
 Resistance to Acids, Alkalies & saline
atmosphere
 Strong adhesion
 Anti-aging
 Can be applied to any metallic surface

The
Problem
Contaminants like salt spray, cement dust, salt fog, industrial pollutants, agricultural
fertilizers and even desert sand can affect the performance of high voltage insulators
and lead to costly power interruptions.
When there is a contamination deposition on the insulators, it can cause everything
between leakage currents, dry-band arcing and air ionization, and end up with power-
threatening flashovers.

The
Solution
Our line of silicone coatings, provide superior protection in highly contaminated areas and
polluted regions by avoiding power interruptions due to excessive leakage current.
RTV insulator coating is a one part hydrophobic, UV resistant coating. Its hydrophobic
surface prevents water filming and encapsulates the pollution, avoiding the ability of the
contaminant to combine with water to form an ionic solution.
The
Features
 Hydrophobicity
 High resistance toarcing and corona
 Resistance toatmospheric andchemical degradation
 UV resistant
 Suppression of leakage current, discharges andpollution flashover
 Non-toxic andenvironmentally friendly material
 High resistance toair,airborne pollutants, rain,humidity, etc.
 Hydrophobic surface prevents water filming
 Surface oil (Cyclic) coats contaminant particles andrenders them
hydrophobic
 Reduces the contaminants ability to combine with water toform an
ionic solution
 Maintains these features over the long life of the installation

Problem: The degradation of various equipment was
creating exposures to natural elements and industrial
pollution, allowing water to come in, cause numerous
flashovers and jeopardize the overhead line
equipment.
Solution: Midsun suggested using Silprocoat to
protect from the effects of weathering. The work done
will last a minimum of 15 years, making it a long-term
and cost-effective solution to corrosion.
