SIAYA GOVERNOR’S ONE MILLION SHILLINGS TEA
CUP
There has been a hue and cry of late about Siaya County governor Mr. Cornel
Rasanga spending Sh. 12 million to be just a cover up for swindling public funds.
The Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo who came up with the revelation meant just that.
And that where he is exactly wrong.
These days I don’t connect with him much, but before Cornel Rasanga became
governor, we used to drink tea with him a lot at Victoria hotel in Kisumu. The
bill ranged from sh. 3000 to sh. 7000 per sitting, as Rasanga has a wide circle of
friends relatives and gate – crashers.
So if it is said he spends Sh. 30,000 on tea per day now that he is governor, I am
not surprised. A teetotaler, tea is Rasanga’s entertainment. The saying that every
time is tea time applies fittingly to Rasanga. Moreover it is the only way he
relaxes with friends, relatives and work colleagues. Together with office staff
you could expect the bill to swell. I wonder how much alcohol drinkers like
Jakoyo Midiwo spend on drinks per day on their circle of friends, colleagues and
relatives.
I have known the Siaya County finance minister Cleophas Okoth Ombogo for
close to 40 years, and I cannot associate him with frivolous expenditure, even if
it is on the governor. So Jakoyo Midiwo’s tiff with the governor is just a storm in
a cup of tea.
