A PERSONAL LETTER TO PRESIDENT UHURU
KENYATTA’S GIRL.
Dear Madam Anne Waiguru,
You seem to have a future, and a bright one at that. But you could mess it
all up if you enter the big league of political giants without much caution.
Be very careful confronting Raila Amolo Odinga, Kenya’s political enigma. He
is not called that name for nothing. Forget about people like Mutahi Ngunyi
who advise you on how to counter Raila. Enigmas are never fully
understood, and Ngunyi has no slethoscope to measure his inner workings.
I know that being a giant killer is tempting. But you know confronting a
giant is akin to putting your life on the line. It is true he does not learn to
leave you alone, and follows you like a gadfly. But take that in stride, aware
that he happens to know who you really are, and your main agenda. He
does not follow the others with the kind of ferocity he reserves for you. Why,
you are young enough to be his daughter, and he should be pampering you
instead.
Remember your man hardly ever confronts him, personally. Wise stuff that,
very clever. The others like William Ruto are busy going down the drain for
trashing greybeards. Practically speaking, your politics is too infantile for the
seasoned operator. But that is no reason to lose hope. Remember when he
accused you of looting at the National Youth Service (NYS), you said that
“not a single cent had been lost,” and that you blew the whistle in time to
save the country some Kshs.800 million. Then last week you surprised friend
and foe coming up with a list of 21 people from your office, including the
Deputy Director whom you were working with hand-in-hand, as amongst
those who have robbed the government of Kshs.800 million.

People were at a loss whether this was new money or the original sum you
claimed to have rescued from the shameless thieves.
Apparently Raila has been rather focused. With so many people around you
considered to be thieves, there must be something the matter about your
managerial style. Again this is no reason to start to panic. For Raila has only
been saying that under such circumstances, you step aside, temporarily, so
that an independent person comes in to investigate. You cannot investigate
everybody in your office by yourself. You must work smart.
This is not to be construed as personal vendetta. Raila seems to think that
you are special, and that your activities are geared toward 2017 elections,
especially the security side of it. You can be lethal I tell you, wearing those
para-military uniform. The other day your boys and girls were out running all
over town in Nairobi, crying they had not been paid for months. Now what
happened to the whopping Kshs.25 billion the treasury spoilt you with just
three months ago? Is it all gone? Or the gang of 21 on your list has looted it
all up, as well?
Dear Anne, allow no one to cheat you that you could match Raila Odinga on
populism. That each time you have a public spat, you organize a ragtag
army of street demonstrators to declare to the whole world how innocent
you are, and how bad intentioned Raila is. Do not take fish to water on a
swimming contest. Those demonstrations that your organize ring hollow,
irrational and unconvincing. Do further research and you will find out for
yourself.
Finally you challenged Raila to court action, and your lawyers wrote him a
scathing letter giving him 7 days to apologize or else. He refused to
apologize flatly, and begged you to take him to court like tomorrow. So what
will you do now? Will you take him to court after one week or will you argue
you were just pulling his leg? You don’t pull legs of father figures, my dear.

This is a matter of public interest where they believe billions of their own
money have been lost. But whatever the case, you must abandon that
enterprise of challenging Raila in a court of law. Eating humble pie is part of
the political game. The reason is the gang of 21 has now facilitated Raila
with all that he needs to embarrass you in public. I would not like to see the
spectre of that happening to you. So eating humble pie is a better option.
That is why I want to emphasize my original advice of not crossing paths
with Raila. He is too experienced in the game and you are not. You have
only the brains and brawn, not the experience of having passed through this
or that trap. So challenging him to a duel is mind-boggling,really.
Power definitely you have and are enjoying. But power rarely breeds
smartness. It is easy to confuse it with ability, and abuse it abundantly. All
those are traps laid out for you, not necessarily by Raila, who in any case
has no personal issue with you. You have a number of attributes which when
highlighted could take you quite far, like going to work early and leaving late
at night. No one can accuse you of being lazy or in consistent. In your own
league, you are among the front runners, if not the best.
On a serious note, you want a future in politics. Indeed, as far as you are
concerned, and as far as we can see, you are just starting out. You are
terribly ambitious, and that is why you decided to bring out this matter of
theft once and for all, so you can come out clean. You are quite unlike the
others who would have swept it under the carpet, now that nobody is talking
about NYS thefts anymore. Even the likes of Raila had reconciled themselves
to the hard fact that you are immovable, even if your name at first featured
in the list of shame Uhuru read to parliament, which led to the fall of 6
ministers. Poor Raila would have loved to see you amongst the fallen six, but
shame on him. He should know the difference between those who matter
and the others.

You came up with this matter of 21 officers honestly to prove your innocence
and whistle blowing credentials. You are an outgoing and aggressive minister
which is a rare occurrence in Kenya politics. Obviously, your closeness with
Prezo is what drives you, and makes your daring moves unable to attract the
wrath of authority. In those echelons pretended seriousness pay more than
the girlish cheekiness and adventure that you easily get way with.
It is because you want a future in politics why you dared to come clean. You
envisage a future of surviving on your own, without the crutches of the head
of state, which is great ambition for a lady of your age and experience. You
want to employ certain traits of Raila that even William Ruto imitated to
enable him to make it to the national political stage.
Ruto saw that all it demanded was having an unquestioned ethnic power
base first, then you would have the ability to go places. Somehow he was
right, somehow he was wrong, because the ethnic power base took Raila
Odinga’s father Jaramogi nowhere, and instead hamstrung him to the tribal
lodestone rock. The same thing could be happening to Ruto. So you should
be extra careful yourself, how you want to make it to the top. But obviously
it cannot be through deviousness. Have a good day.
