The historic 1893 Sheridan Inn, Buffalo Bill Cody’s Sheridan “home,” offers dining and tours throughout the summer and in the fall will open as a “green” hotel. The building is being adapted to capture solar energy for heating and cooling and will offer Buffalo Bill character hotel rooms.

4. Year-Round Adventure
The Bighorn National Forest and Bighorn Mountains are an Outdoor Enthusiasts paradise with
elevations ranging from 4,000 to 13,000 feet. The wilderness areas are located in the most
rugged part of the range for those who really long for a first-rate outdoor adventure. There is
everything from hiking, camping, backpacking, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing to
snowshoeing, fishing, hunting, rock climbing, horseback riding, ATVing and mountain biking.
All four seasons provide breathtaking sights and endless ways to enjoy the great outdoors!

5. Wildlife
Visitors can catch sight of some of Wyoming‟s famous wildlife at the Bighorn Canyon National
Recreation Area, the Pryor Mountain Wild Horse Range and more. The wide array of wildlife
includes big horn sheep, brown bears, deer, eagles, elk, moose, pheasants, wild turkeys, wild
mustangs, wolves and more.

6. Hiking and Camping
The Bighorn National Forest has more than 190,000 acres of wilderness, more than 1,500
miles of hiking trails and over 30 campgrounds. For 30 miles, along the spine of the Bighorn
Mountain Range, Cloud Peak Wilderness preserves many sharp summits and towering sheer
rock faces standing above glacier-carved-U-shaped valleys. Several hundred beautiful lakes
cover the landscape and drain into miles of streams.

7. Rock Climbing
The Bighorn Mountain Range is 80 miles
long – extending south from the Montana
border to Central Wyoming and features
a mixture of high-quality rock climbing
routes in all vertical ranges up to 1,600‟.
These routes vary by size and location
and are composed of a mixture of rock
(granite, sandstone and limestone).
Post Creek and The Shroud are a couple
of rock climbers‟ favorite areas to
conquer.

8. Mountain Biking
There are an abundance of roads
originating from Sheridan as well as up
in the Bighorns for both long and short,
stellar bike rides.

9. Golf
Nestled in the arms of the Bighorn Mountains lies Wyoming‟s Golf Capital; 81 holes all
within a 35 mile radius of downtown Sheridan, lie three of the state‟s finest golf courses.
There is Hidden Bridge, featuring a challenging but fair layout welcoming all levels of
playability, The Powder Horn, which offers a 27-hole championship course and Kendrick
Golf Course, established in 1935 which is rated in the top 5 courses in Wyoming by Golf
Digest magazine.

10. ATVing
A ride along the Bighorn ATV trail system delivers a spectacular experience. Wildlife and
natural beauty are in abundance. Heavily forested trails give way to large, scenic meadows
with breathtaking view of the mountain tops. The Bighorn Mountains offer fantastic
scenery and plenty of memorable opportunities for outdoor adventure!

11. Fishing and Hunting
With trout-filled ponds & streams both within city limits and a short drive from town,
travelers are sure to find a great place to fish until their heart is content and mind is rested.
New and seasoned Wyoming hunters alike are welcome to the Sheridan region where
there is a hunting abundance! Sheridan‟s long and rich tradition boasts an abundance and
diverse wildlife, drawing hunters and photographers alike. These prized hunting grounds
are comprised of public and private lands, both integral to maintaining the myriad of
species for which we are known: mule and white-tailed deer, elk, moose, and black bear;
Birds – pheasants, gray partridge, sharp-tailed grouse and sage grouse, blue grouse,
turkeys.

12. Horseback Riding
It‟s been said that the best way to see the spectacular Bighorn‟s is on horseback. With all
of the beautiful trails and wide open spaces of the Bighorn Mountains, horse lovers will
truly feel like they are in the heart of the Wild West.

13. Winter in the Bighorns
The Bighorn‟s provide a Winter Wonderland for
outdoor enthusiasts. Visitors can ride the range by
snowmobile on more than 200+miles of top-ten rated
trails in the Bighorn Mountain Trail System. Cross-
country trails are abundant in wide-open meadows
and telemark hillsides. Deep snows, spectacular
scenery and the vastness of the West are why people
ride, cross country ski, snowshoe and hike the
Bighorn‟s!

14. History
An important part of experiencing Sheridan is exploring
the history & culture of the American West. Travelers
can visit one of the many historic sites. These sites give
an exceptional glimpse into Sheridan‟s past. There is
the Connor Battlefield, Ft. Fetterman, Ft. Mackenzie, Ft.
Phil Kearny, The Trail End State Historic site, Little
Bighorn National Monument, Wagon Box, The
Sheridan Inn and The Brinton Museum.
Buffalo Bill
The first motion picture star to live in Wyoming was
William F. Cody, also known as Buffalo Bill. He was the
subject of the first-ever western movie, “Congress of
Rough Riders”, made by the Edison Company in 1893.
That same year, one of the grandest hotels in Wyoming
opened in Sheridan. The Sheridan Inn was home to
Cody and served as an audition platform for acts
wishing to join his famed Wild West Show.
