Domain: Adaptive
Subdomain: Personal Responsibility
Behavior: The child understands that hot is dangerous.
Materials: Item PR2 presentation cards showing a pot boiling on a stove and a
burning match.
Procedure: Place the two pictures on the table in front of the child and say,
“Look at these two pictures. This picture shows food cooking on a hot stove. The
other one shows a match that is burning. It is right to touch the hot pan or the
burning match?”
If the child answers, “No” say
“Why not?”
Acceptable correct responses: “It is hot and it will burn.” “ It will hurt me” I’ll Cry
and need a bandage. It feels bad……
Scoring:
2 points – Knows hot items should be avoided because they are dangerous
1 point – Knows hot items should be avoided but is unable to state why
0 point – thinks that it is okay to touch hot items.
