2. WHAT is value :
IN psychology value refer to the relative
importance that an individual places on an
item , idea ,person that is the part of their
life. These feeling are unique to the
individual.
IN ENGLISH DEFINITION :

something.
3. ❖ Demos describe a massive change in values among the 18-34 year old UK generation .Their value
are changing in three main ways :
➔ Young people values are undergoing generational shift as younger generation are expressing value
that are different from those of older generation.
➔ Young people values are tragmenting that people living in the same society or in same social group
or even in the same country had different values.
➔ Young people value are underground realignment . New alliance are being formed and new and
differences challenges are made in different groups and world wide.
THE GENERATIONAL SHIFT IN VALUE:
RONALD suggest that the value of intergenerational had shifted from the materialistic value
to non materialistic values . THe survey conducted by DOMOS showed that following values
are silent to young people of age 16-24 in 1995:
❖ A rejection of authority of either the church of state.
❖ A belief that people have a right to do their own things and not be told what to do by parents
and partners.
❖ A strong concern about the environment combined with a belief that new technologies can
help to resolve the problems and will open up a new opportunities.
❖ An attachment to living a life on edge to take risk.
4. THE FRAGMENTATION OF VALUES:
BANK ET AL have observed a fragmentation of values . Older generation tend to be committed to a
common set of traditional values( respect for authority). Younger people by contrast tend to show
much more diversity in the values they express .
For example :the value espoused by young entrepreneures are different from those who see
themselves as eco-warriors.
One manifestation of fragmentation is that ties that seems to bind most young people together into
social groups are not old style factors such as social class ethnicity or even gender.IT is not a
class or gender loyalty or shared tradition that provides a social cohesion but rather a
commitment to a particular ideology ,religion or some other belief system or concern about a
particular set of issues.
Another manifestation is the shift from party politics to issues politics . BAHVNani interviewed
young people about politics and found that almost without exception young people thought that
party politics were boring , irrelevant and difficult to understand. Most of her interview also said
that they would not bother to vote.
5. A realignment of values :
The realignment of values is particularly noticeable in terms of gender . there seems to be a
feminization of young men values and a masculinization of young womens values . Young men
values generally are increasingly coming to reject machismo values and are becoming softer and
more caring . Young women are not only becoming more likely to values success their own
enjoyment and taking risks than did women in previous generations they are also more into these
values than these values than young men of the same age .
6. CHANGES IN ECONOMICS AND
EMPLOYMENT
Work has become feminized.More women than men are now in paid work although much of it is
poorly paid, part time and insecure jobs .the male and female gap in earning had narrowed and
women shared income in household had increased. The sharpest rise in women employment has
been among women graduates. Most women are entering professions previously seen as male
such as law ,medicine and financial services.
The nature of work has changed from an emphasis on heavy manufacturing to a much greater
proportion of the workforce employed in service industries and information technology.NOW more
team work and emotional labour is involved in job . The term emotional labour was devised
originally to describe the work of flight attendant -the requirement to smile anto be cheerful and
clam, even in the face of customers behaving badly or making emotional demands.Consequently,
mens traditional strenght strenghts such as physical capacity and competitiveness have become
less valued where as women traditional strenght such as flexibility adaptibility, service and team
work have become more valued . T his make women more employed and put pressur on men to
become more feminine .
7. As the unemployment rate is increasing world wide so so women have become the family sole
or main source of income. Many men have to take a part time jobs that used to be thought
women work . This effect the relation not only in world of work but in personal and family
relationship too .so the changes in economics and employment has generated NEW MEN and
NEW women.
