This document discusses gender stereotypes and sexism. It outlines common stereotypes that exist about the traits, roles, physical characteristics, and cognitive abilities of both men and women. For example, it is commonly believed that women are emotional, helpful and kind, while men are active, self-confident and able to make decisions easily. The document also discusses how feminism aims to challenge these stereotypes and promote women's rights and equality. However, sexism and anti-feminist attitudes still persist and disadvantage women in many areas like university professorships, political office, and corporate leadership.
Sexism takes many forms including discriminatory treatment of women, violence against women, and economic disadvantages faced by women. Some key points are:
- Sexism includes prejudicial language that excludes women from certain professions as well as the idea that men are superior.
- Approximately 1.5 million women are raped or physically assaulted by an intimate partner each year in the US.
- Poverty has increasingly become an issue for women, especially those with children, due to factors like divorce and abandonment.
- Hillary Clinton's 2008 presidential campaign broke barriers, being the first woman nominated for president by a major party, but she and other female candidates still face sexist attitudes.
Sexism is portrayed in various media sources such as TV shows, movies, advertisements and books. A survey of 23 people found that most had witnessed sexism towards women, including portrayals of women as inferior or belonging in the kitchen. However, opinions varied on whether sexism is a major problem, with about half believing it is a problem and half not seeing it as a big deal. While some media sources portray women in sexual or subservient roles, the impact of these portrayals is unclear according to the survey responses.
The document discusses ethical issues in advertising. It covers the role of advertising in modern business, including its economic, social and psychological functions. Advertising plays an important role by communicating information about products to consumers and creating markets. However, there are also controversies around its impact. The document outlines guidelines from the Advertising Standards Council of India to ensure advertising is truthful, not offensive or indecent, and observes fairness. Common ethical issues include misleading consumers, using vulgarity or stereotypes, and advertising controversial products like alcohol.
The painting "The Kiss" was created in 1859 by the Italian artist Francesco Hayez and depicts a passionate kiss between two characters from the Middle Ages to convey love, passion, and emotion through their gestures and poses. Hayez was born in Venice in 1791 and became a renowned romantic painter after winning a competition from the Venetian academy in 1809, though he spent much of his career in Milan after leaving Rome in 1814. Some of Hayez's other notable paintings include "Odalisque", "Meditation on the History of Italy", and an early "Family Portrait".

3. In this picture we can see that sexism is everywhere .
Even in google, that is the most used explorer in the
world. If we want to prevent sexism first of all, the
internet must be empty of this sexist messages. It ‘says’
that women can’t invent things.
4.
5. There are many companies that use sexism to
announce their advertisements, like in the upper
commercial. It says that if a woman is fat, better go
vegetarian to lose weigh and also save the animals. For
them is like a help being vegetarian.
6.
7. In this advertisement it says that if you want to kill
your wife, don’t risk giving her pills. It’s more effective
to get a gun and shot at her. But first, if you want to
kill her, think that it can be a sex machine or
something. That’s really sexist. Treats the women like
sex objects that no one cares about
