All questions must be completed thoroughly to receive approval for your Senior Project. Some
projects will be submitted to a committee for final approval. This form must be completed and
returned to your senior English teacher by Friday, August 17, 2012. You will not be allowed to
change your topic after October 12, 2012.

The Senior Project is subject to the plagiarism policies set forth by the district and Creekview High
School.

1) Describe the overall topic of your Senior Project.

To build a rainwater filter system, so the rainwater is clean as it goes into Lake Allatoona.

2) What is your previous experience in this area of study?

I have no experience in this field of work.

3) To what career will you connect this project (required)?

Property Manager/ General Manager.

4) Describe what you are proposing to do for your Product step-by-step and in detail. Write on the
back of this sheet if necessary.

Step one is to measure ten (10) feet out into the lake from the shore. Then I willclean the measured
space of any trash. Third stepI would gather any rocks and bring then onto shore and put into a pile.
The next step would be to map out how the rocks should sit on top of one-another to form a wall.
Fifth step would be to mix the cement mix and start to build the wall with the rocks I put into a pile.
Next step would be when I get to the middle of the wall; a small plastic pipe will be put into the wall
to allow the water to flow from the filter system to Lake Allatoona. Then when the wall is up and
solid we will then pour sand between the shore and the wall. The sand will be the filter for the
rainwater, once it goes through the sand it will be rid of any waste or garbage before it gets to the
pipe and goes into the lake. Next after the sand has been put down, it needs to be smoothed down
and made even. After that is finished, some picnic tables and trash cans will be put on the sand to
encourage customers to sit and relax near the water.
What I will bring to senior boards will be a portfolio, with pictures of every step in the process I took
to build my project.

5) How is this projecta “learning stretch” and a challenge for you?

It is a learning stretch for me because I will be learning how to manage a building and its surrounding
land that sits on the Core of Engineers property, and how to meet all the standards of COE’s rules of
having a property on the lake’s shore. The challenge would be the steps it is going to take to build this
rainwater system. I have to write a letter to the COE explaining the system and what is going to take
to build it; and they have to approve of the proposal.
6) What are your estimated costs for completing the Product, and how will you fund these costs?

Estimated cost will be $200 - $300. A donation bucket will be set up at the Duck Tape Regatta on
August 27th at Little River Marina; whatever isn’t covered from the donations will be out of my
pocket. I worked this summer and saved up some money for my senior project.

7) Who have you chosen (or are considering choosing) as your Project Facilitator?

Ira Smith

8) What is this person’s expertise in this field?

He is the current Property Manager for Little River Marina. He deals with the COE on a weekly basis
about the property and works with to make the building and land surrounding it up-to-date on the
COE standards.
