All questions must be completed thoroughly to receive approval for your Senior Project. Some
projects will be submitted to a committee for final approval. This form must be completed and
returned to your senior English teacher by Friday, August 17, 2012. You will not be allowed to
change your topic after October 12, 2012.

The Senior Project is subject to the plagiarism policies set forth by the district and Creekview
High School.

1) Describe the overall topic of your Senior Project.
I will be constructing and sewing my homecoming and prom dress.

2) What is your previous experience in this area of study?
My previous experience with sewing is watching my mom make clothes for me with patterns.
Over the summer she made me a pair of beach pants, two blazers, and a shirt. I have also watched my
mom sew curtains for our house decorations. I helped my mom pick out the fabric and buttons, but I
want to take this a step further and actually sew the dresses myself. I have a love for fashion and I
would really like to put it to good use.

3) To what career will you connect this project (required)?
I will connect this project to the career of fashion design and seamstress.

4) Describe what you are proposing to do for your Product step-by-step and in detail. Write on the
back of this sheet if necessary.
For my senior project I am going to construct and sew my homecoming and prom dress. First, I
will sketch out what I would like my dresses to look like. Of course, when I try to find patterns to
match, it will not look exactly the same but it will look similar. Then, I will go to the fabric store and
find the basic pattern and fabric I would like to work with. My next step will be the process of making
the dresses. Once I have the patterns laid out on the fabric and pinned down, I will cut them out and
start sewing. When I am done sewing, I will add my last finishing touches and add my own style to it
and finally be completed with my dresses.

5) How is this project a “learning stretch” and a challenge for you?
This project is a learning stretch for me because I will have a better understanding of sewing
for my future life as a mother and maybe even a job opportunity. I know the basics of sewing by
watching my mom, but I really do not know how everything works. I am going to learn how to use the
sewing machine as well as piece the fabric together.

6) What are your estimated costs for completing the Product, and how will you fund these costs?
My estimated cost for my product is about 100 to 125 dollars which I will be paying for with
help from my parents.
7) Who have you chosen (or are considering choosing) as your Project Facilitator?
I have chosen Mrs. Carnes for my project facilitator.

8) What is this person’s expertise in this field?
Mrs. Carnes has been sewing for a long time. She has taught Interior Design at Creekview High
School for a couple of years now along with food nutrition and wellness. She has a lot of experience
with making prom dresses because last year she facilitated another girl who made a prom dress. Mrs.
Carnes can help supply me with the tools needed to finish this project like a sewing machine, etc.
