1. We are looking for an intelligent and effective Senior Java Web Developer for our client who is in
the Entertainment and Gaming industry. The Java Developers need a passion for building leading
web applications with the potential to be used by millions of users!

Reporting to the Team Lead, your responsibilities will include:
•
Working to tight but achievable deadlines in a team with 4 other world-class Java Developers
to create, improve and support Java & AJAX code that powers core capabilities
•
Ensuring that code is clear, robust, well documented, unit tested and peer-reviewed
•
Contributing to architectural discussions on performance, scalability, resilience,
maintainability, portability and modularity
•
Code reviewing work done by other developers on the team
•
Discussing requirements with product owners and designers to reach rapid consensus on
best designs
•
Technical trouble-shooting, documentation and bug-fixing
Experience, Skills and Attributes Required:
•
Experience using Java (Standard Edition – no need for EJBs) to develop high traffic AJAX
consumer-facing transactional web sites – preferably with at least some of this working in an
“agile” environment
•
Working knowledge of GWT or at least one JavaScript library (such as jQuery or Ext-JS)
•
Good understanding of relational databases (ideally PostgreSQL) and related Java
frameworks such as Hibernate and Spring
•
At least a basic knowledge of Linux/Unix systems, including shell scripting
•
Understanding of performance and scalability issues, including multi-threading
•
Passionate about good pragmatic software engineering that meets the business’s short- and
long-term needs
•
Concise clear written communication skills – preferably demonstrated on your CV!
•

A 2:1 or above (or equivalent) degree in Computer Science, Maths or a science
or engineering discipline from one of the world’s leading universities;
o
3 or more A-levels at grade A (or equivalent qualifications) – ideally including
Maths.
Experience with any of the following would be advantageous:
•
PostgreSQL
•
Apache Wicket
•
Google or Bing Maps API
•
Source code analysis tools such as CheckStyle, FindBugs and PMD
