As a student in the Senior Internship Program I
would like to give thanks to the program liaisons, the
mentors, and the HPHS school district for giving the
2014 senior class this valuable opportunity. I will be grad-
uating with not only a greater understanding of the work-
place and what I’d like to do, but also what college cours-
es I will be interested in and how I will strategically select
them. Senior year is a crucial transition into the real world,
we’re now seriously considering our futures and through
the Senior Internship Program I feel more professionally
prepared for not only college but also managing adult-
hood.
To all incoming Seniors, this program will give
you an opportunity to explore your passions and career
interests; this is one class that will help you prepare for
life.

The Senior Internship Program
Highland Park ISD
The Highland Park High School Senior Intern-
ship Program is a student-designed and led exploration of
post-secondary and career interest. Under the supervision
of practicing professionals, this program provides students
with an opportunity to gain perspective and insight into
fields of interest. These non-paid, hands-on experiences are
a means in which participants practice professional com-
munications, time-management and problem solving skills,
while developing field specific skills and knowledge.
Throughout the 2013-14 school year, Senior In-
ternship participants explored their post-secondary educa-
tion and career interests. Tonight is a celebration of their
dedication, perseverance, resiliency and hard work. Stu-
dents will share their experiences, reflections, work exam-
ples, and future goals.
Tonight, we also pay tribute to the mentors. We
are so appreciative for your time, patience and understand-
ing, words of inspiration and sharing your knowledge and
expertise. Without you this would not happen, so thank
you on behalf of the school, students, and parents.
Sincere admiration and appreciation,
Edna Phythian and John Hinton
