Factors to consider for end-of-life care in severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Gait speed can measure functional status in COPD patients. Official COPD diagnosis and treatment guidelines from the Czech Pneumological and Phthisiological Society outline a novel phenotypic approach and patient-oriented care. A survey in Sweden highlights palliative care needs for COPD patients are not being fully met. Another study examines palliative or end-of-life care received by advanced COPD patients in the community.

Background- Lung cancer is the major cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Chronic inflammation of the airway plays an important role in the alternations of bronchial epithelium and lung microenvironment, therefore provoking the pulmonary carcinogenesis and progression of lung cancer. The results may suggest that high inflammation level can be associated with the higher risk of lung cancer. CRP is an acute-phase protein produced in the liver in response to elevated cytokine levels after an inflammatory stimulus. C-reactive protein (CRP) a systemic marker of chronic inflammation is associated with increased lung cancer risk. Material and Methodology- This case-control study was conducted on 40 lung cancer patients and 30 healthy controls. CRP level was measured in serum by ELISA kits. Results- Elevated serum CRP level was found in lung cancer patients as comparison to healthy controls. This study shows significant association between the serum CRP level of lung cancer patients and healthy controls (p<0.0001) and also showed significant association between smoker, ex-smoker and non-smokers lung cancer patients as well as in healthy controls (p<0.0001). Conclusion- Higher CRP levels were found in lung cancer patients as compared to healthy controls. The higher CRP level was also observed in Smoker, Ex-smoker as compared to non-smoker in lung cancer patients and healthy control. This thesis explores phenotypes of obstructive airways disease through cluster analysis of data from the New Zealand Respiratory Health Survey (NZRHS). The NZRHS involved over 1,000 participants and examined clinical characteristics, lung function, biomarkers and responses to bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroids to identify phenotypes. Cluster analysis identified five distinct phenotypes that differ in pathophysiology and treatment response. The thesis aims to characterize the identified phenotypes and develop rules to allocate patients to the appropriate phenotype, in order to enable personalized treatment of obstructive airway diseases.

and activities of daily living among COPD patients in selected tertiary hospital, Chennai, Tamilnadu, India.
The aim of the study was to impart the selected nursing interventions applied to the COPD patients in medical
and pulmonary wards. The conceptual framework used in this study was Widenbach’s Helping art Theory. An
Evaluative approach was used for the present study. Using purposive sampling technique 50 samples were
selected from Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu, India. The tool used was self
administered questionnaire. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The
findings of the study revealed a significantly increase in the COPD patients health related quality of life and
activities of daily living after given the selected nursing interventions. The mean pre test score was 1867 and
the mean post test score was 1861 and the difference between pre test and post test knowledge score was 5.54.
Based on the objectives of the study the findings of the level of health related quality of life and activities of
daily living among COPD patients shows that increased health related quality of life and activities of daily
living. The study shows that the COPD patients in post test were having post score1861 mean difference
5.54.standard deviation 2.35.p value (0.02). Selected nursing interventions are effective in increasing the health
related qualityof life and activities of daily living among COPD patients.. The findings of the study revealed that
a significantly increased in the post test health related quality of life and activities of daily living after given the
selected nursing interventions

A study to assess the effectiveness of selected nursing interventions on health related quality of life
and activities of daily living among COPD patients in selected tertiary hospital, Chennai, Tamilnadu, India.
The aim of the study was to impart the selected nursing interventions applied to the COPD patients in medical
and pulmonary wards. The conceptual framework used in this study was Widenbach’s Helping art Theory. An
Evaluative approach was used for the present study. Using purposive sampling technique 50 samples were
selected from Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu, India. The tool used was self
administered questionnaire. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The
findings of the study revealed a significantly increase in the COPD patients health related quality of life and
activities of daily living after given the selected nursing interventions. The mean pre test score was 1867 and
the mean post test score was 1861 and the difference between pre test and post test knowledge score was 5.54.
Based on the objectives of the study the findings of the level of health related quality of life and activities of
daily living among COPD patients shows that increased health related quality of life and activities of daily
living. The study shows that the COPD patients in post test were having post score1861 mean difference
5.54.standard deviation 2.35.p value (0.02). Selected nursing interventions are effective in increasing the health
related qualityof life and activities of daily living among COPD patients.. The findings of the study revealed that
a significantly increased in the post test health related quality of life and activities of daily living after given the
selected nursing interventions
