12. SELF-ORGANIZING TEAM IS A GROUP OF
MOTIVATED INDIVIDUALS, WHO WORK
TOGETHER TOWARD A GOAL, HAVE THE ABILITY
AND AUTHORITY TO TAKE DECISIONS AND
READILY ADAPT TO CHANGING DEMANDS.
Scrum Alliance, 2013
13. THREE (3) COMMON
MISUNDERSTANDINGS
1. The team has to decide
everything.
2. No one can tell the team
what to do.
3. No one can change the
decision made by the
team.
19. THEY PULL WORK FOR THEMSELVES AND DON’T
WAIT FOR THEIR LEADER TO ASSIGN WORK. THIS
ENSURES A GREATER SENSE OF OWNERSHIP AND
COMMITMENT.
IMPORTANT INGREDIENT #1
21. THEY STILL REQUIRE MENTORING
AND COACHING, BUT THEY DON’T
REQUIRE “COMMAND & CONTROL.”
IMPORTANT INGREDIENT #3
22. THEY COMMUNICATE MORE WITH
EACH OTHER, AND THEIR
COMMITMENTS ARE WITHIN THE TEAM
IMPORTANT INGREDIENT #4
23. THEY UNDERSTAND THE REQUIREMENTS
AND AREN’T AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS
TO GET THEIR DOUBTS CLARIFIED.
IMPORTANT INGREDIENT #5
24. THEY CONTINUOUSLY ENHANCE THEIR
OWN SKILLS AND RECOMMEND
INNOVATIVE IDEAS AND IMPROVEMENTS.
IMPORTANT INGREDIENT #6
25. IN OTHER WORDS, A SELF-ORGANIZING
TEAM HAS AUTHORITY OVER ITS WORK AND
THE PROCESS IT USES, BUT NOT OVER WHO
IS ON THE TEAM OR THE TEAM’S PURPOSE.
26.
27. 1. Include all needed disciplines.
2. Mix of technical skill levels.
3. Balance domain knowledge.
4. Seek diversity.
5. Consider persistence.
6. *X-Factor!
GETTING THE RIGHT COMBINATION OF PEOPLE
31. The goal of the game is for each team
to create as many high quality planes
as possible.
GOAL OF THE GAME:
32. Per iteration (9 minutes):
- 3 minutes for planning
- 3 minutes of actual build (creation + flight)
- 3 minutes of review + retrospective
WE’LL HAVE THREE (3) ITERATIONS
33. 1. High Quality Planes = can fly a distance of at
least X meters.
2. One person can do only ONE FOLD AT A TIME.
3. Crumpling the paper into a sphere and
throwing it, is NOT ALLOWED!
4. Let’s RECYCLE the papers afterwards.
