Pendo provides a firehose stream of analytics, which is great! But how do you filter out the noise? The obvious step of blacklisting servers is easy. Beyond that, there are some key techniques to apply to the data that your application provides to Pendo. The goal: make it easy to set up powerful blacklist entries and Segments in Pendo so that you see only relevant analytics. For example, sending data to Pendo from a test or staging server is useful, but be careful! If your test data overlaps with your production server, be certain to tag it differently when sending it to Pendo. And while blacklists are great for controlling Pendo's analytics, they don't help you target Guide content. For that, you have to be smart about how you use Segments and you have to understand how Pendo uses the data you send it about each Visitor and Account. Another key thing to understand about Segments is that Pendo only keeps the most recent information that your application sends about each visitor to your application. The implication is that you have to be careful about looking at historical data with Segments that are based on visitor attributes. You can do date-independent analysis, but it requires a specific technique. We’ll share an overview of leveraging serverless architectures to support high performance data intensive applications. Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) built the Seller Inventory Authority Platform (IAP) using Amazon DynamoDB Streams, AWS Lambda functions, Amazon Elasticsearch Service, and Amazon Redshift to improve results and reduce costs. Scopely will share how they used a flexible logging system built on Kinesis, Lambda, and Amazon Elasticsearch to provide high-fidelity reporting on hotkeys in Memcached and DynamoDB, and drastically reduce the incidence of hotkeys. Both of these customers are using managed services and serverless architecture to build scalable systems that can meet the projected business growth without a corresponding increase in operational costs.

Code profiling gives a rich, detailed view of runtime performance. However, it's difficult to achieve in production: for even a small fraction of web requests, huge challenges in scalability, access, and ease of use appear. Despite this, Yelp profiles a nontrivial fraction of its traffic by combining Amazon EC2, Amazon EMR, and Amazon S3. Developers can search, sort, filter, and combine interesting profiles; during a site slowdown or page failure, this allows a fast diagnosis and speedy recovery. Some of our analyses run nightly, while others run in real-time via Storm topologies. This session includes our use cases for code profiling, its benefits, and the implementation of its handlers and analysis flows. We include both performance results and implementation challenges of our MapReduce and Storm jobs, including code overviews. We also touch on issues such as concurrent logging, cross-data center replication, job scheduling, and API definitions.

You have SQL Server sprawl throughout your organization. There are SQL Servers installed on servers in all of your environments, some of which you may not even be aware of. IT personnel and developers also have SQL Servers installed; even if they are approved, there’s no guarantee of a minimal configuration. How do you get your arms around this situation?
