Recall refers to the ability to retrieve learned information without cues, like on a fill-in-the-blank test. Recognition refers to identifying information from options, like multiple choice. Memories are stored through associations in the brain, and bits of related information can act as retrieval cues to spark memory of the original information. Priming is the process of activating these memory connections to help retrieve specific memories. What we learn in one state or mood is sometimes easier to recall when in that same state again, as our memories are sensitive to conditions.
