Ryder breaks his femur after jumping off a ledge in an attempt to be "extreme" with his friends Luke and Peter. They take him to the doctor who explains that Ryder has a closed fracture of the femur, requiring him to use a brace, cast, and wheelchair for several months to heal. The doctor also notes a stress fracture in one of Ryder's ribs. Later, Luke provides more details about displaced and nondisplaced fractures, as well as traverse, oblique, comminuted, and hairline fractures to the others.

Script for Science Project 3 Skit<br />Scene One: Intro<br />Ryder: I’m so bored.<br />Luke: So, what do you want to do?<br />Peter: You guys want to be extreme?<br />Ryder & Luke : Yeah, sure.<br />Peter: Well, lets go.<br />Luke: How are we going to be extreme?<br />Ryder: Yeah, how we going to be extreme?<br />Peter: I don’t know but let’s go! <br />Scene Two: The Hardcore Stuff<br />Going to City Park Playground<br />Peter: Okay, we’re here<br />Ryder: Okay, who wants to jump off first?<br />Luke: I would.<br />Peter & Ryder: Sure, why not.<br />Luke jumps off<br />Luke: Woo hoo! That was fun!<br />Ryder : OK, my turn.<br />Ryder jumps off and snaps a bone<br />Ryder: OMG! That hurt so much! Help me!<br />Peter: DUDE! ARE YOU ALRIGHT!<br />Luke: You alright?<br />Ryder: I think I snapped my bone.<br />Peter: Uh-oh. We better go.<br />Ryder: Passing out…..<br />Scene Three: The Doctor<br />Walks in the doctor’s office<br />Doctor: So what brings you here today?<br />Peter: Our friend jumped off a ledge and snapped his bone.<br />Luke: Oh really? Well let’s take an x-ray<br />Peter: Okay.<br />Ryder taking the x-ray<br />Ryder: Is it serious?<br />Doctor: Yes, in fact it is really serious.<br />Peter: Can you explain it a little bit?<br />Ryder: Yes, please do.<br />Doctor: You happen to have a closed fracture of your femur, the largest bone in your body.<br />Ryder: And this means…<br />Doctor: Your going to have to wear both a brace and a cast AND go around in a wheelchair for the next few months or so.<br />Everyone but doctor: WHAT?!<br />Doctor: Consider yourself lucky that it was a CLOSED fracture. If it was an OPEN fracture, you’d need to take both antibiotics and stay in a mostly sterile environment for that entire time, plus have surgery to correct the bone.<br />Ryder: An open fracture is……<br />Luke and Peter: Ooh, ooh, I know! An open fracture is when the bone breaks the skin from the inside, causing an open wound. They’re gross!<br />Doctor: Yah, and another thing. The fall has caused a stress fracture on one of your ribs.<br />Ryder: And THAT is…..<br />Doctor: A minor fracture that will normally heal with the help of just a brace, but don’t run too much, breath too hard, or put too much stress on it. <br />Luke: Hey you want to play some tackle football!<br />Peter: This is serious, the doctor said-<br />Luke: I know. <br />Scene Four: The Extra Info<br />Luke: I did some research on Ryder’s injury.<br />Peter: OK, gimme some info<br />Ryder: Yes, that would be nice.<br />Luke: Well, The doctor was right when he said that it was a closed fracture, but he didn’t mention displaced and nondisplaced fractures.<br />Peter: Alright, what are those?<br />Luke: A nondisplaced fracture means that the bone stays in a relatively correct position.<br />Ryder: And I guess that means a displaced fracture means that the bone moved out of its correct position.<br />Peter: Anything else<br />Luke: Yes, quite a bit more.<br />Everyone but Luke: Oh joy…..<br />Luke: In a traverse fracture like our friend has here, the bone breaks at a 90 degree angle, like if you sliced it in half.<br />Peter: OK…..<br />Luke(immediately after): And an oblique fracture is when the bone is broken at an angle/slant.<br />Ryder: Alright…..<br />Luke(immediately after):In a comminuted fracture, the bone breaks in several fragments, like shattered glass.<br />Everyone except Luke: SLOW DOWN<br />Luke (immediately after): A hairline fracture is when only a small part of the bone of the bone s broken, similar to a stress fracture.<br />Ryder: Just saying, you lost me back at the oblique whatever, and how much research did you do?<br />Peter: Yeah, HOW MUCH?<br />Luke: Enough to get all that.<br />Peter: So just making sure, a displaced fracture is when the bone shifts away from the original position, and a nondisplaced fracture means the opposite.<br />Luke: Correct<br />Ryder: And a traverse fracture is when it breaks at 90 degrees, right.<br />Luke: Uhuh.<br />Peter: OK, so an oblique angle is when it breaks at a slant….<br />Luke: Yes.<br />Peter: And a comminuted fracture is when he bone breaks in several spots.<br />Luke: Right again.<br />Ryder: Okay, good enough……<br />Everyone: Thanks for viewing!<br />Cast:<br />Ryder Lee- Ryder Lee<br />Peter Park- Peter Park<br />Luke Shilling- Luke Shilling<br />Cameraman- Hudson Lee and Zach Lee<br />Doctor: Zach Lee<br />
