Editor's Notes
Hi Eveyone, My name is Alex Hodgson and I am the founder of a company called 1DegreeBio. 1DegreeBio is an online community tools that is like a TripAdvisor for Antibodies and kits. My team and I scour the web for product information, protocols, reviews and citations so you can quickly source reliable reagents and get on with your research. While I absolutely love my job, my team and what we are building at 1DegreeBio – I never would have ever imagined this is what I’d be doing.
This notion that the path from school to career is supposed to be this obvious straight line is well…… garbage.
This is what you think the path looks like at 6 years old when you don’t know better. Like we really grasp the realities of becoming an astronaught when pledging our lives to space exploration.
I think most of us can agree that infact, our path from higher education to career looks more like this. Either it actually is like this or whther it just feels that way, the bumps in the rode help customize our path so its ours. My path looked and felt like this.I was really into sceince. A bona
While working at the sgc, we struggled a great deal tracing down high quality reagents and often resorted to maing it ourselves. We follow smke signals, whispers in the lab, obcsure citations and if the stars aligh perfectly, well, then if stars align, grest, if not, it’s a game that leads to hundreds of dollars wasted each time you choose wrong.
The lack of transparency is incredible and has lead to users buying the wrong product, using it incorrectly, quality issues…
So we created a the largest antibody resource where users can quickly find the right antibody and read user reviews, product information, quality control data, and cited publications.
Though was told I was crazy when we started, the model is working.
Services launch in April, Reagents begin to expand…
If you are looking for more information, here are some suggestions:
Don’t do it alone. Create a close network of people who can advise you.
Listen to people’s feedback, but alwayslok deeper at the motivator. Why don’t they think it will work? Is it that your pitch wasn’t clear? Is it that they are very risk-adverse.
