- Ignaz Schwinn founded Arnold, Schwinn & Company in 1895 which became highly successful, selling over 1 million bicycles annually by 1968 and having one of every four or seven bicycles sold in the US branded as a Schwinn by the 1950s-1970s. - Schwinn bicycles achieved great popularity and brand recognition in the US during the company's peak in the mid-20th century before experiencing difficulties in later decades.
