Schools in Mexico have higher dropout rates and lack resources compared to schools in the United States. Many Mexican families immigrate to the US so their children can have access to education and opportunities. While the US dropout rate was 33% in 2009, Mexico's was lower at 7% but opportunities after school are limited. The document urges US students to appreciate the educational opportunities they have that many other children around the world do not.
During his final year of work toward his master’s degree in education, Colgate University alumnus George So gained valuable experience as a high school teacher at Eastside College Preparatory School in East Palo Alto, California. Certified to teach English, biology, and chemistry, George So developed the curricula for an English and a math class, and developed original SAT preparation materials to enhance Eastside students’ performance on their college boards. Analysis of the first round of SATs after So’s preparation materials were rolled out indicated that students’ scores had increased by a minimum of 15%.

Schools in mexico

Here in America, we take our education for granted. They say work hard and keep on
top of your school work and you’ll go far in life. If you apply yourself you will soon be living the
American dream of success. Unfortunately, in some other less fortunate countries, including
Mexico, these principals don’t apply. They may try hard but don’t have the ability or
opportunity to go to college. Some children in Mexico don’t even have school at all. Since many
Latinos don’t have proper schools, they come to America so that at least their children can be
successful. Many immigrant students thrive through all years of school and get accepted into
great colleges. They realize the opportunity that they have been given is truly an honor and
they take full advantage of that.
In America, the dropout rate in 2009 was 33%. That’s almost half of the population. In
Mexico, the dropout rate was 7% and shrinking. Thanks to new laws like the No Child Left
Behind Act, the dropout rates in America are declining as well. When Americans take their
school for granted, they give up, slack off, don't focus, and drop out or fail out because they
don't see right now how much it could cost them later on in life.
We are given an amazing opportunity here. Many children in poor countries don't even
know what schools are. Many of these children would be jumping at the opportunity that we
have. To be able to go somewhere in life. Most don’t realize it but our school now determines
our life in the future. We need to try in high school to get into a good college. We need to try in
college to get a good degree. We need to get a good degree and schooling to become what we
want to be in life and to live our lifelong dreams. We are given a great opportunity that many
are not given. Take advantage of it.
