SCHEDULING
MARGIN
MARGIN Week 2
• MARGIN: THE AMOUNT AVAILABLE
BEYOND WHAT IS NECESSARY.
Margin – (1) the outside limit or
edge of something; (2) a spare
amount or measure allowed for
contingencies or special situations
Schedule - a plan of things that will
be done and the times when they
will be done
- a written or printed list of things
and the times when they will be
done
Time to be interrupted.
Time to relax.
Ephesians 5:15-17
Be very careful, then, how you live — not as
unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of
every opportunity, because the days are evil.
17 Therefore do not be foolish, but
understand what the Lord's will is.
What is our situation like?
In light of our family situations
In light of our personal situation
In light of our commitment to God
Good relationships need the time; they
can’t live as just another item on our
agenda because eventually that agenda
is going to get reshuffled.
Good relationships need the time; they
can’t live as just another item on our
agenda because eventually that agenda
is going to get reshuffled.
The question is:
Do you have room in your life for your
self?
Do you have room in your life for your
family?
Do you have room in your life for your
God?
Making and maintaining margin means
allowing for the unexpected in life to
happen (because it does).
Set your priorities
What the Lord asks of us today is to
make the time for him, make more than
just an appointment, make ALONE time
with him a daily priority.
We must be very careful how
we live because our time on
earth is limited.
Psalm 39:4
“Show me, LORD, my life's end and the
number of my days; let me know how fleeting
my life is.”
HOW DO WE SCHEDULE WISELY?
First we must know that
God does everything according to
His timetable.
God’s time does not always match
our schedule.
We must make time for Him.
We must be willing to wait for Him.
We must be careful not to push our
schedule on Him.
He sees the big picture.
He has a plan.
He has one goal. His glory.
We can try to fit God into our
schedule but most of the time it
does not work.
Margin requires saying no to
some good things to be able to
say yes to the best things.
SAY “NO” TO MANY GOOD
THINGS, SO THAT WE CAN SAY
“YES” TO THE BEST THINGS.
What does it mean?
Romans 12:2
Do not conform any longer to the
pattern of this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your
mind. Then you will be able to test and
approve what God's will is — his good,
pleasing and perfect will.
Make the best use of your time
Ephesians 5:15-17
15 Look carefully then how you
walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16
making the best use of the
time, because the days are evil. 17
Therefore do not be foolish, but
understand what the will of the Lord is.
What are the reasons why most of the
time we fail to fix our schedules?
WHAT MATTERS ARE MISSING?
WHAT MATTERS ARE MISSING?
1) INTIMATE TIME WITH GOD.
Matthew 6:33
But seek first his kingdom and his
righteousness, and all these things will
be given to you as well.
WHAT MATTERS ARE MISSING?
2) INTENTIONAL TIMES OF REST.
Matthew 11:28-29
Come to me, all you who are weary and
burdened, and I will give you rest. 29
Take my yoke upon you and learn from
me, for I am gentle and humble in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 6:33
But seek first his kingdom and his
righteousness, and all these things will
be given to you as well.
How are your priorities organized?
Are you seeking love first? Money first?
Kids first? Hobbies first?
Lack of priorities will always fragment
our life and we may end up wasting
time instead of enjoying the best that
God has for us.
Make effective
transformations
If we would be totally honest, the idea
of transformation really scares us. That
is because we know that such a radical
change would be quite uncomfortable.
We realize that with transformation
comes a major overhaul of our lives and
priorities.
The two greatest enemies of
transformation are regrets for things
we did in the past, & anxiety about
what will happen to us in the future.
