The document provides a recipe for traditional Easter biscuits. It calls for butter, sugar, egg yolk, self-rising flour, currants, mixed peel, and milk or brandy to be creamed together and rolled into rounds before baking. The biscuits are brushed with egg white and sprinkled with sugar partway through baking for 20 minutes at a fairly hot oven temperature of 400°F.
The document compares three common temperature scales: Fahrenheit, Celsius, and Kelvin. It lists the people who developed each scale, when they were developed, and how they were defined. Key temperatures are also listed in each scale, along with conversion formulas between the scales.
This document discusses variable speed pumping in condensing boiler systems. It covers the life cycle costs of hot water systems and components like boilers and pumps. It also discusses opportunities to improve efficiency on the demand side through temperature setpoints and resets, on the transmission side by reducing pumping costs, and on the supply side by applying condensing boilers. Key considerations for condensing boilers include driving down return water temperature, outdoor reset controls, and domestic hot water system design. Utilities offer rebates to help customers implement efficiency improvements.

Twitter raised $35 million in a new funding round, valuing the company at $230 million despite having no revenue. Twitter has experienced tremendous 800% growth in unique visitors over the past year. This document discusses states of matter and changes between states that occur through heating and cooling. It provides details on the key states - solid, liquid, gas - and phase changes like melting, freezing, boiling, and condensation. An experiment is described where water is heated in a beaker and its temperature and state are recorded over time to observe these changes between solid, liquid, and gas phases. Graphs are made of the temperature changes during heating and cooling of the water sample.
States of matter boiling point & freezing point (enhance)Noor Ibrahim
This document summarizes an experiment on the states of matter involving boiling point and freezing point. It includes the names of three students, an introduction to changes in states of matter through heating and cooling, and descriptions of the procedures, results, and discussion sections of the experiment. The procedures involved using a temperature sensor to collect data on the heating and cooling of water and producing graphs of temperature over time. The results showed the melting point of ice at 0°C and the boiling point of water remaining at 100°C as heat was applied. The discussion analyzed the experiment results and particle behavior in the solid, liquid, and gas phases of water.
The document summarizes an experiment conducted by Ashwin Bhakre and Alex Daughtry to test if water takes longer to cool down from different starting temperatures. They hypothesized that hotter water would cool slower over 10 minutes. They measured the temperature drop of 100ml of water starting at 60°C, 70°C, and 80°C in a 250ml beaker every minute for 10 minutes. Their results showed that water cooled the most when starting at 80°C, dropping 27°C, compared to 10°C and 17°C drops for 60°C and 70°C water, disproving their hypothesis. Ashwin notes a potential confounding variable was leaving the 60°C water on a hot
The document summarizes the steps taken by two students, Alicia and Clara, to calculate ingredients, costs, and temperatures needed to make a 10-portion pie. They calculated amounts for 10, 2, and 1 portions. They then bought ingredients, calculated prices, and followed instructions to make the pie's dough, cocoa-based filling, and bake it. Dividing total costs by 10 portions gave the cost per portion. They provided ratios of butter to flour in the dough and filling.
This document provides instructions for home brewing beer using basic mashing and sparging techniques. It describes a double bucket mashing system and outlines the mashing procedure. This includes heating the mash water, adding grain to create the mash, and maintaining the mash temperature for 90-120 minutes. It then describes heating sparge water and two common sparging methods - fly sparging and batch sparging. The document also covers boiling the wort, cooling it, and pitching yeast to start fermentation.
Temperature is a measurement of how hot or cold something is. It is measured using scales like Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin. Tools like thermometers use materials that expand and contract with temperature changes to measure and indicate temperature. Common thermometers contain mercury or alcohol that expand in a sealed glass tube when heated and contract when cooled to show the temperature on a scale. Temperature can be converted between scales using formulas.
This document discusses key concepts relating to heat, including:
- Heat is defined as energy transferred between objects due to a temperature difference.
- Common units of heat include calories and joules.
- The specific heat capacity of a substance is the amount of heat required to change its temperature by one degree.
- Phase changes from solid to liquid and liquid to gas involve latent heats and occur at constant temperatures.
- The conservation of energy principle states that heat lost by one object equals heat gained by another in thermal equilibrium.
- Problems involving heat transfer can be solved using the formula Q=mcΔT.
The document outlines residential air conditioning rebate schedules provided by FPL, Florida's largest energy company. It provides rebate amounts for new central AC and heat pump systems based on their SEER efficiency ratings and size in tons. Higher SEER units that are more energy efficient qualify for larger rebates from $50 up to $2,100. The schedules include rebates for both air-cooled and water-source equipment. An example shows that replacing an older 10 SEER AC with a new more efficient 15 SEER unit could save $400 per year in energy costs.

Note: To convert the recipes in this book to metric measures we have found
that it is more practical to use a 25 9 unit in place of the oz. a 5 mi spoon in
place of the teaspoon, a 15 mi spoon in place of the tablespoon. and to
reckon 500 mi to the pint. Recipes converted in this manner will yield slightly
less than the original. so it is best. to ensure that recipes containing meat are
nutritionally balanced, to allow slightly more meat per persono i.e. 450 9
to the lb.
The above is based on information agreed by the U K Federation for
Educatíon in Home Economics, 1970.
