Queen Liliuokalani was the last monarch of Hawaii, reigning from 1891 until 1893 when she was deposed. As queen, her goal was to preserve Hawaii for its native people, but increasing U.S. influence led to Hawaii becoming a U.S. territory in 1898, bringing an end to her rule as the islands' monarch.
