The author initially learned about Santa Clara University through helping their children research colleges. They saw firsthand the positive impact of a Jesuit education when their son attended Loyola Marymount University, as he became an articulate, sensitive, and intellectually curious young man dedicated to social justice. When the son took a class at Santa Clara University, he had another positive experience. The author is interested in Santa Clara because it has an academically rigorous curriculum that also values compassion, with ethics being a cornerstone and the university having a center for applied ethics.
