HISTORY OF SAN LUIS NATIONAL
HIGH SCHOOL
S a n l u I s n a t I o n a l h I g h s c h o o l (slnhs) is a public institution under
Republic Act (R.A) 8463 which was laboriously initiated by Honorable Congressman
Homobono T. Cezar through his Countrywide Development Fund (CDF). The said
shall established a high school Barangay San Luis, City of Gingoog, Province of
Misamis Oriental to be known as the San Luis National High School. This Act which
originated of the House of Representatives was finally passed by the House of
Representative in the Senate on December 2, 1996 and October 27, 1997,
then lapsed into law on January 19, 1998.
SY 1998-1999 was the humble beginning and started with land area of three hundred
(300) square meters which was owned by Honorable Norma A. Quinto, the Barangay
Captain of San Luis. The site was just borrowed from her. At that time, there were 26
students as the pioneering learners under Mrs. Perla C. Gundaya the classroom advisor
with Mr. Samuel Yder as the School Incharge. Dr. Leovigilda G. Guanzon was installed
as the five School Principal and she was promoted as ES-I in T.L.E in the Division of
Gingoog City due to her accomplishments as the School Principal. She was succeeded
by Mrs. Idjyad Yder, who at present the School Principal GCCNHS.
With the full support of the LGU and Local School Board, a lot was purchased for the school site
whose area consist of 182,330. square meters. At first, three (3) makeshift classrooms were built.
Through the leadership of Honorable Congressman Oscar S. Moreno, Three (3) concrete
classroom buildings were initially built. Succeeding years, the school grown up with the endless
support of the Barangay Council of San Luis, DTI-National Office, LGU of Gingoog City, the
DepEd Agency, the parents and other civic organizations namely JCI and the Rotary Club of the
City.
Presently, the school has eleven (11) classrooms comprises of Computer Laboratory
rooms, Principal’s Office, School Library, classrooms for learning avenue, school stage
and the ongoing construction of Two Storey SHS building. It has thirteen (13)
calibered teachers with Mr. Edwin J. Evangelista, the School Principal who are
committed to bring forth the vision and mission of SLNHS.
