Editor's Notes
The information we are presenting was last updated by Sage in August, 2010. As with any software development, delays may occur which may push back release dates, or possibly delay the release of a promised feature until a later version. But, as of right now, this is what we know, and we’re sharing the exciting upcoming developments with our valued clients.
Talking points:
Sage decision to phase out Extended Solutions related to downturn in economy
Many solutions used by less than 5 users were too expensive to maintain
Decision also based (according to Sage) on their desire to get back to basics and provide world class support to client base
Poorly communicated by Sage – both to resellers and to end-users
Most used solutions will be incorporated into MAS, and many already have been added
Retired products – code released to third-party Master Developers, now known as Development Partners, who will handle the solutions going forward
Upgrades to 4.4 – most solutions ready for upgrade
EPA will work closely with DSD Incorporated, a trusted developer with more than 20 years providing solutions and enhancements for MAS products. We have a great working relationship with DSD, and DSD has a proven track record of reliable products.
Those Extended Solutions being incorporated into MAS are being phased in via quarterly (or so) product updates. 3 updates have been released thus far, and we saw the added solutions this morning during the What’s New lap.
This timeline was presented to the partners during the August Certified Consultant’s meeting. Dates are merely guidelines that we use as benchmarks. SMI was finally released in mid-September to partners, and is available to end-users, though communication has not been widely released as yet.
Version 4.45 is targeted for new installs only, and although the timeline specifies an October release date, we haven’t seen it yet. There’s still a week left, though.
Once we start looking a year ahead, we usually wait until the next conference or meeting where we can get the skinny from the actual support and development team on what progress is being made, and how close the release will be to the projections. When we know, we will certainly let you know.
Talking Points:
Microsoft announced retirement of FRx last year – Sage immediately began search for replacement
Alchemix already had an Excel-based report writer being used by other Sage product lines, so this was the inside choice as the FRx replacement
Our special guest this afternoon will let us know much more about SMI and the plans to replace FRx
Scheduled product updates will add value to your Sage Maintenance plan, delivering both fixes and product enhancements every 3-6 months. As we discussed earlier this morning, many features have already been added to MAS version 4.4 through the first 3 product updates.
As we mentioned, version 4.45 will be available only for new sales when it is released shortly. This is important to us, however, because it represents Sage’s new direction toward a SQL Server database for MAS 200. The SQL database option will be available to current MAS 200 users as an upgrade option in version 4.5. I prefer to think of the 4.45 release as live beta testing, which means Sage will be able to address any issues prior to releasing to our current users.
The next major update to MAS 90 and 200 will be version 4.5, to be released late next year. This is exciting for many reasons:
At that time, Sage will discontinue the separate product known as the Extended Enterprise Suite and merge that product with Sage MAS 90 and 200. This means that all current MAS users will have access to a CRM system that integrates fully with your MAS ERP system.
Even more good news – we’ll be implementing this integrated system at EPA this year, so we’ll be more than ready to assist you with your growth
Even more of the most-used Extended Solutions will be incorporated into version 4.5, giving you more functionality in the PR, SO, AR, and PO modules
And, an upgrade to SQL Server for MAS 200 will be available, promising high performance and increased efficiency and flexibility.
Teaser alert – CRM integrated with MAS 90. What you see in MAS A/R Customer is duplicated in CRM. CRM system allows global view of customer – all points of contact with the customer can be recorded in one place, including sales history from MAS90. Sales persons will be able to access MAS 90 sales info on the same screen as history of phone calls, e-mails, trade show attendance, past orders, and much, much more.
Each MAS 90 end-user will receive a single “Free” SageCRM user license when you upgrade to version 4.5. Additional licenses for SageCRM and Fixed Assets will be availabe (no pricing yet). Also, you will have one single support plan with Sage for all integrated products.
Current limitations in the integration between SageCRM and MAS ERP will be removed in version 4.5 – in particular, we will now be able to map multiple MAS companies to a single CRM database!
Additional functionality Enhancements available in version 4.5 will include these former Extended Solutions. More information about these solutions can be found on the Pen Drive you received today.
What else is coming beyond version 4.5? A lot of that is up to you and other current MAS 90 users. Sage has committed to its resellers that they will do their best to add the functionality requested by their customers. You can vote on those requests, or submit your own request for an enhancement, at this web site. We’ll talk more about this in the afternoon sessions.
Of course, Sage is already planning version 4.6, and these enhancements are currently under consideration for inclusion.
Sage’s retirement schedule for these products is set. With the release of version 4.4, Sage has initiated a support policy of the current version and two prior versions. Sage has not retired a version for many years, but now that most all modules are at the business framework, they are adhering to this schedule. If you’re still on version 3.x, you are no longer supported by Sage!
