If one go to Haridwar and come across Brahmin Priests or ‘Pandas’, mostly they
would be having voluminous records called ‘Bahi Khate’. These handwritten
records, passed down to them over generations are classified according to the
villages/districts and are updated periodically. Special designated Pandit families
are incharge of each districts, with a few of them being incharge of districts which
are in present day Pakistan as well.
The records are similar to ‘Panjis’ maintained by Maithil Brahmins in Bihar.

Hindu Genealogy Registers
As Haridwar has traditionally been a site, for death rites and also Shraaddha,
amongst Hindus, it soon also became customary for the family pandits (priest) to
record each visit of the family, along with their gotra, family tree, marriages and
members present etc., grouped according to family and home town. And over the
centuries, these registers became an important genealogical source for many
families, part of splintered Hindu families, in tracing their family tree and family

The TCS 10000 m race is an annual competition held in Bangalore every year,
usually in the month of May. Mosinet Geremew of Ethiopia won this year’s event

Though envisaged as the state capital during the statehood agitation, the Dixit Commission for
the search of a new capital noted that the interim capital then is a more suitable place as the
permanent capital owing to the factors like its distance from national capital, centralised
population and safety from natural calamities when compared to X.

After being trained as a barrister in London, X joined the freedom struggle during
the 1930s and was arrested several times. X was in the Nashik jail in 1930,
when Jayaprakash Narayan came in contact with him and together they launched
the Congress Socialist Party in 1934. X was a close friend of Jawaharlal Nehru and
a member of Constituent Assembly of India, representing the Indian National
Congress. He introduced the rejected proposal for a uniform civil code to be
included in the Constitution of India in 1947.
After Stalin's purges and takeover of Eastern Europe, X moved away from Socialism
and became a supporter of free market economics.
In August 1960, X along with C. Rajagopalachari and N. G. Ranga formed the
Swatantra Party. X was one of the few politicians who opposed the nationalisation
of banks by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

radios in combat. Indian intelligence plant Mohini who informs the IAF about the jammer. PAF's
counter intelligence learns about her and they zero in on her on that very night. As soon her
programme is finished, the IAF air raids the studio while she is still inside.
In the dogfight with Pak, Raaj Kumar's jet is destroyed and he crashes. He radios for help and
the IAF fighters destroy the pursuing Pakistani soldiers and their vehicles. The movie ends with
IAF's flypast on the Republic day parade in New Delhi with the title song in the background.

On his arrival to India, X established the primary form of Y at Selaiyur village, a suburb of
Chennai. In 1972, he obtained a piece of land in Guindy on lease from the Forest
Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu and, with the help of a group of naturalists
from Chennai, set up bigger one Y and soon constituted a trust to manage its affairs.
Y was conceived to rehabilitate the Irula tribe who are known for their expertise in
catching a particular reptile and had been left jobless after the ban on its trade. X was

funds and recruit volunteers for INA.

smiled in reply, an indignant Y said, “They are not my father’s, they are mine. I gave all of them to you,

(money) comes and goes but not X. You have the wisdom of X. Hence, I name you X.” This was how Y
became XY from that day onwards.
So persuasive was she that the very next day, Bose recruited XY and four of her friends as spies in
INA’s intelligence wing….
An endnote: For a long time, this veteran freedom fighter lived alone in a dilapidated and cramped one-
room apartment in Chennai, adorned only by several photographs of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
Recently, the Tamil Nadu government allotted her a house, albeit an old one in a housing colony.

A picturesque tourist destination and a trekking spot, X has attracted attention
because of the human skeletal remains that are visible at its bottom when the
snow melts. Local legend says that the King of Kanauj, Raja Jasdhaval, with his
pregnant wife, Rani Balampa, their servants, a dance troupe and others went on a
pilgrimage to Nanda Devi shrine, and the group faced a storm with large
hailstones, from which the entire party perished near X.
Radiocarbon dating of the bones at Oxford University's Radiocarbon Accelerator
Unit determined the time period to be 850 CE ±30 years. Results indicated that 70
percent of them had an affinity with Iran, while the remaining belonged to the local
population. Researchers have concluded that the skeletons are the remains of
people killed in a sudden, violent hailstorm in the 9th century.

The main block of the Supreme Court building was built on a 17-acre triangular
plot and its foundation stone was laid by Dr. Rajendra Prasad on October 29,
1954
The apex court building is flanked by two wings. The right wing consists of the bar
room, offices of the attorney general and other law officers and the library while

Jivaroan peoples refers to groups of indigenous peoples in the headwaters of the
Marañon River and its tributaries, in northern Peru and eastern Ecuador.
The Jivaro people are famous for their head-hunting raids and shrinking the heads
from these raids. These raiding parties usually only attack one homestead per raid,
killing the men, spearing the older women to death, and taking younger women as
their brides. Once the heads have been collected they are shrunk by cutting the
skull vertically and removing the skull and jaw bone. Then, the head is boiled and
later mixed with hot gravel and sand, shrinking the head to the size of a large
orange. The head is sewn along the lips, which are blackened with charcoal.

Today, 1791 jewellery packets (the value of which are unknown) are still in
custody of the SBI, and on an average, four to five packets are redeemed
every month. The process of redeeming today is quite different as most of
the persons who had pledged the jewellery are no longer alive. Those who

one of his products while he was working at GE.
He was initially denied the patent by the Patent Office because the patent code
