WHAT’S ON AT RUGBYFEST?
RUGBYFEST
RUGBY IS COMING HOME AND YOU CAN BE PART OF IT
WHO’S BEHIND RUGBYFEST?
Spencer Brown
Within rugby, Spencer is best known for his six years in
the English Premiership, playing as a winger/fullback for
Richmond and later Bristol. He’d actually begun his playing
career comparatively late, joining Richmond in 1992 when
they were still in the third tier of English rugby.
He turned professional in 1997, and soon after signed with
Bristol. He’d actually appeared at Ashton Gate previously,
appearing for an England XV against New Zealand – a match in
which he made a bone-crunching try-saving tackle on Tana Umaga.
Spencer was a member of the England Elite squad from 1998 to 2001.
During this time he represented England at the World Sevens in Paris, and
England ‘A’ for three seasons. He won two full England caps against Australia
and South Africa during the 1998
tour to the Southern Hemisphere.
After retiring from the professional game, Spencer
has put a lot of time into studying sports sciences. He has degrees in
Sport and Exercise Science and Strength and Conditioning, and works
in this field helping athletes and non-athletes alike.
Mark Dunkley
Mark started playing rugby at the age of four and his passion for the game has only grown stronger with every
passing year. Although his native tribal loyalty is to the blue, black and white of Bath, when he lived in Northampton
he became a Saints ticket holder – just so he could go and watch live rugby as often as possible. A highlight of
his younger years was playing in the NatWest Schools Cup at Twickenham.
Upon entering colts rugby, Mark featured for all five teams in one season at Old
Northamptonians, making his first team debut at 17. As a senior, Mark has played with
a number of clubs. He worked in New Zealand for two years and so got involved with
local teams, including representing the Matawatu region.
Back over in England, Mark has been a Rugby Lion and also played for
Nuneaton in National 2 before becoming a side regular in National 3. His
proudest moment with Nuneaton came in his final year there, when he
captained the second team to an unbeaten league and cup campaign,
winning both trophies.
Mark has played Rugby League too – he was part of a national and
regional winning side with Northampton Casuals for two years
running.
Although Mark’s playing career has slowed down, he says
that, if anything, he now feels even more enthusiastic about
every aspect of the game, and loves helping promote rugby
wherever he can.
RUGBYFEST
There are many
ways in which your
business can be
an official sponsor
of RugbyFest and
benefit from the
huge publicity this
f a m i l y - f r i e n d l y
event is going to
attract.
As well as reaching all the fans who flock
to RugbyFest on the day, the event will also
have significant multimedia
reach over the course
of several months of
advance marketing to
the game’s fanbase
across the UK as well
as in rugby playing
nations around the
world.
