It showed a over complicated machine doing a very simple task. After
the cartoon this type of machine is now named a Rube Goldberg
Machine.
One of the devices on the cartoon is the self operating napkin

4. Rube Goldberg Machine
It is a machine, contraption or a device that is set one task that is to do
something that is very easy but it makes it a whole lot more
complicated. Like the self-Operating Napkin. You can just swipe your
mouth but it you want to do it the rube Goldberg way you make it
complicated.
