I woke up to find I’ve been washed out of my own home, my own home!
I’m very draggled and have no idea where I am. Then lo and behold a little boy
named Teddy I believe comes and takes me in as his “ pet”. Well I have to say this
family has quite a big bungalow, which is very fun to explore. I have a warm,
scrumptious meal right before going to bed. I quietly crawl into the warm, and
cozy bed next to Teddy who is peacefully sleeping. His parents are staring at me
scared and I hear the mother whisper something about me hurting Teddy and the
father reassuring her. I don’t know why they would be scared because everyone
knows mongooses eat cobras and other yummy snakes not little boys.
HELP WANTED
Someone who can get all the cobras out of gardens.

3. Oh lordy, “sob”, oh lordy, “sob”. My own child I can’t believe it, eaten by
Nag, “shudder”. 0h who is this? Will he eat all my babies? It’s a mongoose, “oh
joy”! Excu… excuse me, umm… Mr. Mongoose. Yes sir says that mongoose so brave.
I asked him who he was and told him about my baby. He asks who Nag is and I
tell him, but everyone knows that Nag is everywhere so I must be careful what I
say. He tells me he eats snakes not birds so not to worry.

4. Cobra Corner
I’m in my burrow and I hear that annoying bird Darzee talking to someone
about me! I slither out and say as cold and scary as I can “ I am Nag ”. I see that it
is a mongoose. I must show that I am not afraid, but every cobra knows what a
mongoose loves best is cobra. I must keep my cool so he doesn’t eat me, my wife
Nagaina, or even my babies. That mongoose doesn’t have the slightest look of fear
in his eyes. Oh look my dear Nagaina is coming up right behind Rikki tikki-tavi to
kill him. NO!!! That idiotic bird warned that mongoose - he would have been dead.
I’ll get him I’ll get all of them!

5. This week features:

Ah what a day, first I meet terrible Nag and Nagaina, then I kill a brown
snake, Kaurit (my first snake by the way ), and now I am off to bed. Well not
exactly, I now have time to explore. I soon find a muskrat. “Now who may you be”
I ask him and this is his response “ please don’t kill me”. I finally get out of him
where Nagaina keeps her eggs (in the melon patch), but then he tells me they are
everywhere. I then hear the faintest sound of scales against concrete, I realize Nag
or Nagaina must be in the sluice. When I get to the bathroom I hear both Nag and
Nagaina talking in the sluice. They have just planned for Nag to come in and
6. cunningly kill the family. Oh no they won’t is what I say. Soon Nag slithers in and
coils up near the tub. Now is my time to strike! “ Rikki Tikki Tavi Tikki Tavi” is
what I say. Eyes ablaze I strike Nag boy oh boy does he struggle, I thought I was a
goner, but the big man shot him. Hooray Nag is dead, but uh oh what will
Nagaina do?
Recipe for cobra soup
2 cups of broth
Half of cobra, chopped small
Carrots, celery, and onions
Cook for 20 min
Word of the Bird
I wake up to hear Darzee singing a victory song because of the death of
Nag. He must be careful though because Nagaina will get her revenge. Suddenly I
hear “ you stupid bird stop singing we still have Nagaina to deal with and I need
your help”. “ No way” is what my husband says so I step up to the plate. Excuse
me, but Rikki tikki-tavi I will help you. “Okay” he says, “you have to pretend you
have a broken wing and distract Nagaina”, I agree and go off to the garbage heap
where Nagaina is mourning Nag. I start to distract her and she comes right after
me but then heads to the veranda. By the looks of it she’s going to kill the family I
must tell Rikki tikki. There he is in the melon patch crushing eggs. “Quick Rikki
tikki Nagaina is going to kill the family”. With one off in his mouth Rikki tikki is
off to fight Nagaina.

Who do they think they are killing my darling Nag, but they are going to
get it oh yes they will. I will kill the boy first I suppose. “ Don’t you move another
inch Nagaina” is what I hear from that mongoose what does he want? “ I have
your last egg don’t you want it”? No he didn’t taunting me with my own egg. I
will get the family later, but right now I must get my egg! I go to fight, but that
mongoose is good. Finally I get my egg and I head to my burrow.

Ahh where am I going, oh boy into the burrow! I fight and win I come up
valiant and share the news with the garden “ Nagaina is dead”! Then Darzee goes
off into another song, but now I don’t mind because all is safe. I got lots of praise
from Teddy and his parents, and I have a wonderful life now!
