The ENDIA study, led by the University of Adelaide and Women's and Children's Hospital, Adelaide, is launching a new regional participation program to involve more families in research seeking to identify environmental factors influencing the development of type 1 diabetes. The study aims to solve the mystery of the doubling of type 1 diabetes cases in children over the past 20 years in Australia. Pregnant women and babies under 6 months with a family history of type 1 diabetes can now participate from home or with local healthcare support. Involving regional families is important because environmental differences may impact diabetes risk. The Porter family from Berri, South Australia are the first to enroll in the new regional program.
