1. EXISTENTIALISM vs ESSENTIALISM
Many people including myself probably struggles issues pertaining
to these beliefs. But I have strong faith that God created everything with
a defined purpose. This is an indication that I am an Essentialist person.
Our purpose in life is the very meaning of our existence and without
knowing this we often suffer ignorant of our own significance. We fall
prey to the illusion that our lives don't matter and we have no connection
or impact on the world around us. Yes, I am also ignorant of my own
existence. I can’t forget the times when I asked myself why I am in this
life? Why did God created me and live this life like a roller coaster ride? I
felt I am useless and has no significant contribution in my own family
especially when I am still jobless. Until such time when I told myself I
know I have my own purpose. I always see its own purpose of all the
things around me. I agree with what Philosopher Plato said that “All
things have such an essence”. Being a daughter of Church servants
(LLM, Catechist, Parish Youth Leader, and Animators) I started to submit
myself to God. We put God at the center of our heart and mind. As a
human, do what is meant to be done. If you will not act for your own
good then, I can say you are ignorant of your own life.
Being an essentialist teacher, I instill my students the essence of
academic knowledge in different subjects. I exerted all my efforts for
them to learn all the skills, knowledge and values which are essential as
they grow. I included during my discussion that they need to find there
worth as a person by giving importance to their life, family and most
especially their dreams and aspirations. We do not know what life takes
you as you grow old but always remember that you can contribute for
2. the progress and unity of the place where you are someday. I told them
that God gave us all including all our senses to be use to find meaning
and worth of our life. Make use of all these senses.
