The document discusses the definitions and characteristics of romantic genres in literature and film. It provides examples and summaries of two romantic films: The Last Song, about a rebellious teenager who reconnects with her estranged father over a summer, and undergoes personal growth; and The Fault in Our Stars, about two teenagers with cancer who fall in love while struggling with their illnesses and ultimately face a tragic ending, in contrast to the optimistic conclusion of most romantic stories.

2. DEFINITION OF A
ROMANTIC GENRE
The romance novel or romantic novel is
a literary genre. Novels of this type of
genre fiction place their primary focus
on the relationship and romantic love
between two people, and must have an
"emotionally satisfying and optimistic
ending."
3. THE LAST SONG
ā¢ It is a romantic film aimed for young
demographic (teenagers).
ā¢ Tries to connect with the audience by
throwing in real life issues, for example,
Ronnies parents are divorced and she finds
out her dad has cancer.
ā¢ She goes from hating her father because he
left but as she spends the summer with him
her character grows.
4. RONNIE
Due to her father walking out she rebels against her parents
by stealing and hanging out with the wrong sorts. Where as
before she was a model student and even got accepted to
Julliard without even applying. She is secretly caring but puts
up a front.
As her character grows her clothing and make up
changes, she starts off wearing all black or monotone
colours and heavy eye make up to wearing colourful
clothing and more natural make up.
5. THE FAULT IN OUR STARS
ā¢ The fault in our stars is a romantic tradegy
that is based around two teenagers who have
cancer who fall madly in love while struggling
to live.
ā¢ This film contrasts with the last song because
it is based around a more serious life issue and
is more of a heart throbber guaranteed to
have anyone in tears.
6. ā¢ Stereotypically
romances end
in a āoptimistic
endingā
however in the
fault of our
stars, the
ending is
extremely sad
unlike the last
song.
