While gully density increases with moderate relative uplift rates, this trend does not continue into the highest uplift regions, possibly due to dense vegetation obstructing mapping. Gully density is greater in basins underlain primarily by mudstone versus sandstone/conglomerate, as mudstones are more susceptible to weathering. Relative erosion rate, as approximated by depth of incision, does not significantly impact gully density across the study area. Rock type appears to exert more control on gully formation than relative erosion rate.

The Williams Fork Formation in the Piceance Basin of Colorado contains tight sandstone reservoirs that are an important source of natural gas. The reservoirs have low porosity and permeability but natural fractures enhance permeability. Gas is stored in thick, continuously gas-saturated sandstones and migrates through the extensive natural fracture network. These fractures formed due to overpressuring from coal seams and folding related to basement faults. Integrating seismic data, remote sensing, and modeling can effectively identify fracture-prone areas for gas production from these low-permeability reservoirs.

Ground Improvement by Vibro Stone Columns
Vibro replacement stone column is one of the widely used soil improvement technique to improve the settlement characteristics, bearing capacity and mitigate the liquefaction issues of the soft soil. In this paper, improvement of the settlement characteristics of the soft soil is considered for the analysis based on the available case histories. A settlement estimation method proposed by Preibe (1995) is verified quantitatively. Finally, an analytical solution for settlement of soft ground for the stone column design is proposed. The proposed method of calculating settlement is based on the basic concept of composite material and soil mechanics. However, the result of this preliminary work is yet to validate numerically and in the field. Detailed research in future is necessary to check its validity and applicability

This project analyzes changes in the channel and disturbance zones of Finley Creek in southwest Missouri between 1955 and 2005 using historical aerial photos and GIS. Disturbance zones were classified into four types: extension, translation, chute cutoff, and megabar. Spatial analyses found tributary drainage area and valley characteristics strongly influence disturbance zone development, while riparian land cover has a negligible effect. Continued research will focus on factors controlling specific disturbance zone types.

The 6.1m high retaining wall of a proposed multi-storey building failed during heavy rains from a tropical storm. The wall was designed as a framed structure using incorrect backfill properties and lacked adequate weep holes. Samples of the backfill were tested, revealing it to be clayey sand. When redesigned as a retaining wall based on actual properties, it required more reinforcement. The structural engineer's design provided insufficient strength and stability, leading to the wall's failure before completion of the building framework intended to support it. Retaining walls are best designed and built independently rather than as part of a framed structure.
Evidence of Geological Control on Reservoir Petrophysical Properties of “Beta...
Geological controls on the reservoir petrophysical properties of “BETA Field” have been carried out using suites of wireline logs. Stratigraphic relationship among the reservoir sand bodies including their geometrical architectures, and their stacking patterns were also established. Exponential regression analysis of some of the petrophysical parameters were carried out to establish any relationship with depositional processes as well as depositional environments of the reservoir sand bodies in the field. The main factor controlling petrophysical properties and thickness for these reservoirs is the type of sandstone facies. The petrophysical evaluation of both reservoirs (K and Q) depicts porosity range from fair to very good across wells (i.e 11% to 25%). From the evaluated reservoirs porosity, there is no significant reduction of porosity with depth increase. The values obtained for the permeability of both reservoirs (K and Q) varied widely and inconsistent across the wells in the study field. The various depositional environments established in BETA field include fluvial, tidal channel, mouth bars, delta front, and the reservoir sands occurring in different depositional settings, resulting from different depositional processes, which had a wide range of petrophysical properties.
Surface Reflection Seismic Method: Coal Mines Field

The paleo-facies of the Muddy Formation are favorably arranged to constitute a stratigraphic trap, based on the deltaic depositional environment and structure of the basin. Specifically, the student's original conclusion against drilling was based on incorrect data about facies arrangement, but the literature shows the expected ordered arrangement that supports hydrocarbon migration and trapping.

They are moving seedlings that have outgrown their starter pots into larger pots where the plants will have more room to grow until being planted in the ground. The youth group is assisting with repotting seedlings as a service project.

This document summarizes a study of the aquifer potentials of the Campano-Maastrichtian Gombe Sandstone formation in the Gongola Basin of northeastern Nigeria. The formation is composed primarily of sandstone from a deltaic depositional environment. The 6.1m high retaining wall of a proposed multi-storey building failed during heavy rains from a tropical storm. The wall was designed as a framed structure using incorrect backfill properties and lacked adequate weep holes. Samples of the backfill were tested, revealing it to be clayey sand. When redesigned as a retaining wall based on actual properties, it required more reinforcement. The structural engineer's design provided insufficient strength and stability, leading to the wall's failure before completion of the building framework intended to support it. Retaining walls are best designed and built independently rather than as part of a framed structure.

Geological controls on the reservoir petrophysical properties of “BETA Field” have been carried out using suites of wireline logs. Stratigraphic relationship among the reservoir sand bodies including their geometrical architectures, and their stacking patterns were also established. Exponential regression analysis of some of the petrophysical parameters were carried out to establish any relationship with depositional processes as well as depositional environments of the reservoir sand bodies in the field. The main factor controlling petrophysical properties and thickness for these reservoirs is the type of sandstone facies. The petrophysical evaluation of both reservoirs (K and Q) depicts porosity range from fair to very good across wells (i.e 11% to 25%). From the evaluated reservoirs porosity, there is no significant reduction of porosity with depth increase. The values obtained for the permeability of both reservoirs (K and Q) varied widely and inconsistent across the wells in the study field. The various depositional environments established in BETA field include fluvial, tidal channel, mouth bars, delta front, and the reservoir sands occurring in different depositional settings, resulting from different depositional processes, which had a wide range of petrophysical properties.

This document summarizes a study that used seismic modeling and analysis of seismic data to interpret the stratigraphy of a shallow coal deposit in central Alberta, Canada. 1D and 2D modeling helped relate seismic reflection character to stratigraphic variations in the coal zone. Seismic lines from the study area were reprocessed and interpreted, finding that reflection character could be quantitatively related to coal zone stratigraphy. The study demonstrated that detailed seismic interpretation is possible by relating reflection seismic data to variations in density logs from wells.

Specifically, the student's original conclusion against drilling was based on incorrect data about facies arrangement, but the literature shows the expected ordered arrangement that supports hydrocarbon migration and trapping.

The youth group is assisting with repotting seedlings as a service project.
