Physical quantities can be either base quantities that define other quantities or derived quantities that depend on base quantities. Base quantities include length, mass, time, electric current, temperature and amount of substance, while derived quantities are defined in terms of base quantities, like velocity which depends on length and time. The International System of Units (SI) provides standard units for measuring physical quantities.
