Language Diversity and its Impact on Team PerformanceGiulio Valagussa
The presentation is based on a paper I wrote during my experience at the University of Tübingen. It analyses the main issues an individual faces when he/she has to work in a culturally heterogeneous multinational company team, and seeks to understand how and to what degree these differences influence the final outcome of the team.
In the presentation I applied my research in three different areas to the role of English as a Lingua Franca in academia.
1. Language in International Business, dealing with country-of-origin effects, bridge individuals, power, and power/authority distortion.
2.The impact of foreign language use on thoughts, feelings, and behaviour, discussing the impact of English language use on questionnaire responses, feelings about key business concepts, and competitive behaviour.
3.Bibliometrics research, illustrating how Google Scholar promotes the diffusion of multilingual scholarship.

A little bit of travel opens up the mind to new possibilities as well as the importance of understanding foreign cultures. In North America, our business system accentuates the formal contractual nature of relationships. We often shop for price and/or quality with little thought given as to who produces an item or who provides particular services. Practices in other national cultures can be different. In many instances, a purchase is made or a relationship developed because of a friendship or family relationship. Deals are sealed by a handshake, not the ink of a pen. Understanding the cultural subtleties surrounding practices can make or break a business deal unbeknownst to the deal-makers.
Geert Hofstede is probably the best known researcher of national cultures as they relate to business practices. His insights obtained from a 1970's study of 100,000 IBM employees around the world serve as the benchmark for this important area of understanding. Fons Trompenaars undertook his own research and built on Hofstede's ideas to create his own framework of understanding national cultures. Along with these two large research programs, a third is currently underway seeking to understand the difference in leadership around the world. Robert House and Mansour Javidan lead this group. These three research programs inform this assignment and hopefully serve to improve your knowledge of all important differences and similarities across cultures.

Politics is a genre of language, and language is the manifestation of politics (Mazrui, 2008). Political discourse not only plays an important role in the process of national external communication but also conveys certain ideology and political intentions. Based on interpersonal function in Systemic Functional Grammar and using President Xi’s speech at the Extraordinary G20 Leaders’ Summit as the original data, this paper analyzes and explores how this speech can achieve discourse function through personal pronouns, mood, and modality. In addition, this paper reveals how various linguistic resources are used to realize interpersonal meaning in political discourse.

The workplace has to be the epitome of tolerance, interaction, assimilation and borrowing or influence of other aspects found in the workplace. Adaptability is important. It means that the business should allow for a change in both the volatile and dynamic nature of the organizations. The psychodynamic approach in workplaces focuses on dynamics of human behavior. Diverse integration and diversity perspectives are pertinent in an environment of ever-changing work practices and demographic patterns. Hiring is often based on talent and capability to offer something to the business. Many companies struggle to recognize and the value of creating and inclusive workplaces. This has led to a scenario where the workforces contained several workers all from different backgrounds. Fair Treatment of Ethnicities
Fig Technologies is a global technology solutions firm, in an attempt of expansion they have obtained a number of smaller firms to expand its services in different regions. Group which I’m a consultant for to visit and learn their processes, systems, and culture. This report will assess my three teams which members as follows: Team 1: 4 Americans, 3 Germans, and 3 Qataris; Team 2: 5 Germans, 3 Qataris, and 2 Americans; and Team 3: 4 Qataris, 4 Americans, and 2 Germans.
While making my selection All the countries have similar work cultures. This is reflected in the individualism dimension scores determined through the Hofstedes cultural dimensions. Germany has an individualistic culture with a score of 67 on the individualism dimension. Qatar’s dimensions are higher than Germany’s with 78 score on the same dimension (Al Dulaimi, & Bin Sailan, 2011). Individualism is highest in the United States with a score of 91 in this cultural dimension.
Individualism indicates that high skills are important and hard work is rewarded in the three cultures (Al Dulaimi, & Bin Sailan, 2011). This analysis creates a picture of stiff completion in the work place which explains the strife. In the current cultural settings, teams may be ineffective because of the competition and the desire for each individual to prosper. All team members will attempt to outdo one another to get more rewards. Language barrier between the team members may also affect the effectiveness of the teams. The team members represent diverse languages namely English, German, and Arabic. ...

Assembling the Strategies for Learning Vocabularyijtsrd
This paper focuses on the vocabulary features and learning strategies for language learners. Through using wide range of vocabulary and effective strategies, learners are able to develop their vocabulary. Since the vocabulary knowledge is vital for all four language skills, listening, reading, speaking and writing, it is necessary to determine how they can tackle the text which they have never encountered. To be able to know and cope with a wide range of vocabulary, it is needed for learners to know effective strategies for learning vocabulary.
