2. Dignity v
Nakedness
The text on the picture reads:
A woman who veils her body in
MODESTY is not hiding herself
from men …
She is revealing her DIGNITY to
them
3. Theme – Dressing godly
The theme of this post revolves around this verse from 1 Timothy 2:9 -' I also want
the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves,
not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes.' There are
many other verses of Scripture which shall add to these as we go on. My focus is
on the clothing or dressing of the Christian women, lady or girl. So I will be using
only an extract of this verse from its start to the second comma. the principle of
this message is that the Christian woman, girl or lady should not dress seductively
but moderately. She should not be under-dressed by overexposing her body or
revealing too much flesh. Let us go back to the beginning.
6. The effect of Immoral clothing
Proverbs 7:10
Then out came a woman to meet him, dressed like a prostitute and with crafty intent.
Isaiah 3:16
The LORD says, "The women of Zion are haughty, walking along with outstretched
necks, flirting with their eyes, strutting along with swaying hips, with ornaments jingling
on their ankles.
Proverbs 7:16-17
Should your springs overflow in the streets,
your streams of water in the public squares?
17Let them be yours alone, never to be shared with strangers.
Romans 14:21
It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your
brother or sister to fall.
7. What is indecent, immoral, seductive
clothing
In Genesis 38 Judah perceives his daughter-in-law, Tamar, as a prostitute. Proverbs 7:10
identifies that there is an attire of a harlot. First we need to understand what a harlot's
job entails. Her work is to commit fornication or adultery in exchange for money. She
canvasses for work not through a loudspeaker or saying I am a prostitute, No! Her line
of marketing is revealing those parts of the body which are sexually connected. Those
parts of the body where the sun is not supposed to shine on! Let's name the parts,
after me of course; thighs, breasts, cleavage, crotch, hips, curves, waist ... . Let me end
here. These parts are the nakedness, that which was not adequately covered by sewn
fig leaves. But a prostitute seeks to reveal them so that a man becomes sexually
aroused, this creating demand for sexual conduct because of a need created. Tamar
did this by covering her face - I do not know but I can assume that she wore the attire
of a harlot but veiled her face so that Judah would not identify her after seeing her.
8. What is seductive clothing cont’d
Verse 10 of Proverbs 7 says the prostitute not only had the attire of a prostitute on
but had a crafty intent. The intent to seduce so that she could lie with the young
man. Which means one can put on an attire of a harlot without a crafty intent! The
intent to sexually attract men and boys. Some do it because of fashion. Proverbs
5:6 warns of women who do not give heed to their paths.
9. What constitutes seductive clothing
Any clothes that reveal those body parts identified above. Let's give some
examples; mini-skirts, mini-dresses, shorts, hipstars, tight-fitting, figure-hugging,
body-revealing clothes, clothes with a plunging neckline, breast-outs, waist-outs,
yoga pants, lady trousers, leggings, strapless dresses or tops ... - ( this list is not
exhaustive). The body of a woman is something of an attraction but it is meant for
one man - the hubby. That is why Proverbs 5:16-17 says its not for public
consumption (verse given on What is seductive clothing). It should be revealed to
the husband alone and kept to oneself. You see the body of a woman belongs to
a husband and the body of a man is for the wife - 1 Corinthians 7:4. Though the
woman is in possession, she is in not the real owner and must keep it for the
owner even when he is not yet there. Same applies for men and boys.
11. Special citation – our body, God’s temple
– 1 Corinthians 6
15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Should I therefore take
the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! 16 Do you not
know that whoever is united to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For it is said,
"The two shall be one flesh." 17 But anyone united to the Lord becomes one spirit with
him. 18 Shun fornication! Every sin that a person commits is outside the body; but the
fornicator sins against the body itself. 19 Or do you not know that your body is a
temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not
your own? 20 For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body.
Comment – let us not defile our bodies in dress as our bodies are the Holy Temple,
which most be covered. A temple should be duly covered, is a place of dignity, is not
an open place.
How God did honour us by making us temples not synagogues!
12. Think of others
Mathew 18:7
Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! Such things
must come, but woe to the person through whom they come!
Revelations 2:20-21
Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls
herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality
and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. 21 I have given her time to repent of her
immorality, but she is unwilling.
Phillipians 2:4
not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
13. Think of others cont’d
We have seen how seduction comes about through clothing. Some maybe saying
its not my cause that someone fell into temptation. The first two Scriptures above
indicate that offence comes by someone. Temptation comes by someone. Just do
not let it be you. Romans 14:21 says if anything of your doing causes your weak
brother in Christ to stumble, do not do it. For his sake. We are encouraged to look
out for the interests of others by the last verse above. If one lives alone in the
whole world ( bar the weather elements), there would be nothing wrong with
nakedness. But because you do not live alone, nakedness matters and must be
covered. It is nakedness on our part of you.
14. Closing remarks
Lest I forget, they are some clothes, my sisters, which may be covering the body but revealing it
the more. This is a lie from the devil that you are fully covered yet revealing the body or parts of it
that is/are supposed to be covered. To this class belong yoga pants for example.
I shall point out that there are various degrees of nakedness, depending on which type of clothing
is one. Just like in murder, there is first degree, second degree, third degree and so forth. But the
simple fact is that its still nakedness
Closing verse: Romans 1:21
Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they
not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
We know that what prostitutes do deserves judgment but we must not approve and do what
prostitutes do in their line of work.
Fashion may change but God remains the same even as His Word remains like it is.
15. Further thought scripture –
1Thessalonians 4
1 Finally, brothers and sisters, we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus that, as you
learned from us how you ought to live and to please God (as, in fact, you are
doing), you should do so more and more. 2 For you know what instructions we
gave you through the Lord Jesus. 3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification:
that you abstain from fornication; 4 that each one of you know how to control
your own body in holiness and honor, 5 not with lustful passion, like the Gentiles
who do not know God; 6 that no one wrong or exploit a brother or sister in this
matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, just as we have already
told you beforehand and solemnly warned you. 7 For God did not call us to
impurity but in holiness. 8 Therefore whoever rejects this rejects not human
authority but God, who also gives his Holy Spirit to you.
16. Ephesians 5
3 But fornication and impurity of any kind, or greed, must not even be mentioned
among you, as is proper among saints. 4 Entirely out of place is obscene, silly, and
vulgar talk; but instead, let there be thanksgiving. 5 Be sure of this, that no
fornicator or impure person, or one who is greedy (that is, an idolater), has any
inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath
of God comes on those who are disobedient. 7 Therefore do not be associated
with them. 8 For once you were
17. Leviticus 18
You shall not uncover the nakedness of …
6“None of you shall approach any one of his close relatives to uncover nakedness. I am the Lord.
7You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father, which is the nakedness of your mother; she is
your mother, you shall not uncover her nakedness. 8You shall not uncover the nakedness of your
father’s wife; it is your father’s nakedness. 9You shall not uncover the nakedness of your sister,
your father’s daughter or your mother’s daughter, whether brought up in the family or in another
home. 10You shall not uncover the nakedness of your son’s daughter or of your daughter’s
daughter, for their nakedness is your own nakedness. 11You shall not uncover the nakedness of
your father’s wife’s daughter, brought up in your father’s family, since she is your sister. 12You
shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s sister; she is your father’s relative. 13You shall not
uncover the nakedness of your mother’s sister, for she is your mother’s relative. 14You shall not
uncover the nakedness of your father’s brother, that is, you shall not approach his wife; she is your
aunt. 15You shall not uncover the nakedness of your daughter-in-law; she is your son’s wife, you
shall not uncover her nakedness. 16You shall not uncover the nakedness of your brother’s wife; it
is your brother’s nakedness

18. You are epistle – 2 Corinthians 3:2
You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone.
The way we live, our behavior will be writing a letter which is read by all those who
see us.
So it is instructive for Christians to live in a dignified manner, writing a letter using
holy and righteous conduct. Christianity is a matter of the heart played out by
outward behavior. So we cannot downplay dressing saying hee chinodiwa moyo (
what matters is the heart) but really ndozvinoda moyo yedu zvekupfeka
kwakafumuka ?(is this what our heart desires, to dress seductively?
19. Our hearts, our conscience …
1 Timothy 4:2 says “Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been
seared as with a hot iron.”
2 Timothy 1:7 says “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a
sound mind.”
Let not the world of fashion make you feel as if everything is fine when it is immoral but use the
sound judgment of the Holy Spirit if He is indeed in you. Use wise discretion when dressing so that
your beauty is not corrupted as Proverbs 11:22 alludes to a ring in the snout of a pig. Prove that
you have both beauty and discretion to the world, I challenge you in the name of Jesus, our Lord.
Revelations 3:17 - You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.' But you do
not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.
20. Packaging
Packaging is an important part of a product. For some products, it helps preserve
freshness to be enjoyed when opened.
Some packages are transparent so that the appeal of a product can be seen e.g
bread.
Some packages completely block the view of the product such that it can only be
seen by removing the package.
We are the product of God’s creation and we should have a proper package – one
that is not revealing but one which ensures surprises during the moments of
honeymoon. It really should be this way, rather than revealing these on any other
day and to anyone for that matter.
21. My take
As I write this presentation, I am single at 22 years 10 months.
Many times I have come to consider one I would settle for as a future wife
Some of these times, the girls themselves would have expressed an interest in me and I would consider
such an expression of interest.
But most of the times I would not consider such an invitation because of their dressing.
I will just entertain such a consideration by taking myself as the husband of such a wife who displays my
private property to the public. A wife who does not value her body – hence does not love herself to the
point of exposing her body – and I would consider if such a wife would be able to value me, respect me if
she did not do the same to herself! Would she also be able to ensure that I am properly and
appropriately clothed if she did not do so herself?
I will call into remembrance the commandment of love to fellow men that love your neighbours just as
you love yourself. From this came the golden rule; that do unto others as you want them to do unto you.
This commandment of love refers us that we must love ourselves first. Then we will have no problem
loving others. We must value ourselves first, respect ourselves first and them do so in a like manner to
others. Tell me, if you do not love yourself, will you be able to love the other?
So since I expect to be properly and appropriately clothed, so shall my wife-to-be be.

I WAS at a funeral recently when one woman arrived to commiserate. When she
arrived, all the people who were sitting outside the house suddenly went quiet.
This woman had a very low-cut blouse, which made her chest seductively grin and
greet everybody. I was seated with a group of men, and
when she came to shake our hands as per tradition, she bent down to offer us her
hand. When she did that, her breasts were not only in the faces of the mourners,
but they nearly spilled out like disobedient goblins that have chosen an
inappropriate time to appear in public. When her breasts almost tumbled out, the
woman quickly stood up straight and tucked them in.

Because she still had to shake the hands of all the other people who were outside
before going into the house, she devised a plan. With one hand tightly gripping the
gaping part of her blouse, she completed the hand-shaking process. By the time she
finished shaking hands, she was also finished like she had been running a marathon.
Beads of sweat were decorating her forehead and nose.
Eventually she shuffled and disappeared into the house where the women were. As
soon as she was gone, she became the subject of our discussion. She had succeeded in
stealing attention and the agenda from the deceased. For close to an hour, the men
discussed how women are dressing inappropriately these days. But, what was
interesting was how the other women in the house noticed the unsuitability of this
woman’s dressing.

Title :Dress code yekuroorwa ndaitadza
I am a young and confused woman. I am 23 and my husband is 24. I used to dress as I
pleased when we were dating and he would compliment me.
We tied the knot a few months ago and are expecting our first baby but already I have
more don’ts than dos. When it comes to dressing it is now a case of mukadzi wemunhu
does not wear torn jeans, short skirts, small tops, revealing clothes and so forth.
It seems I have to start a new mukadzi wemunhu wardrobe and this is very frustrating. I
thought he was a cool guy, aiwa bharanzi raani nhai.
Response from Mai Chisamba in part:My understanding is that yes, people can wear
whatever they want but you need to always ask yourself if you are decently dressed.
