Week 2How would you rate the managers in your company based on.docxmelbruce90096
Week 2
How would you rate the managers in your company based on the 5 functions of Management. How would you rate yourself on these Functions?
As I think of my direct manager I would love to give him a high rating, I simply cannot due to stated functions of manager. I would rate him below average at best.
Planning: We have never been given goals to accomplish from him for our current position. We have always come up with own objective and goals and we are required to follow and complete those. We are not checked up throughout the year to see if we have met or not met these said objective or goals.
Organizing, Leading, Staffing, Controlling: I think that since our manager does not have any means of creating a concrete foundation to manage his staff, these other functions will never work or be accomplished since the planning stages were neglected from the beginning. His current staff has little to no respect for him and only sees him as the “cool” manager to chit chat with. He has been with the company for 20 years and only speak of retiring and hoping we get “One more good contract so he that he can ride it out”.
I would rate myself rather low as well, due to not knowing the correct way to even begin advising or leading a team. I have not been encouraged to initiate, plan or engage in any process to build a more cohesive team. We work independently and are only responsible for what we are given by our District Manager who is based in San Diego.
What management skills do you now possess and which skills do you need to study and understand?
I think that I currently possess excellent Human Skills. I can speak well and confidently to anyone. I have always felt the need to encourage and develop others which is what I would like to start doing. If someone does a good job, I am the first one to let them know. I also can constructively critique others when they are going down the wrong path or need someone to guide them. I would live to improve upon my conceptual and technical skills.
Week 3
What are the Social Responsibilities of a company and the management? Do they conflict with the responsibilities the organization has to the owners (in corporations the stockholders), their employees, and their business partners such as suppliers and marketing intermediaries?
The three approaches by businesses to social responsibility are resistance, being reactive, and being proactive. In the resistance approach, an organization fights to eliminate, delay, or fend off the demands being made on it. In the reactive approach, organizations wait for demands to be made and then respond to them by evaluating their alternatives. The proactive approach leads organizations to actively seek ways to be socially responsible. They continually look at their operations for ways in which to make them more environmentally friendly. They encourage their employees to be active in community causes. They look at the needs of constituents constantly staying in touch, sensing thei.

Responsibilities
I managed the payday loan office as well as know the legalities and responsibilities
demanded to the industry. I organized (according to policy) customer files, assist
different types of transactions, and strived to provide a comfortable, confidential, and
professional customer service experience. The company provides payday loans, check
cashing, Western Union services, prepaid debit cards, cash for gift cards, and
reloadable prepaid phone services. All of which I’ve had to learn, provide, and teach to
2. my employees. This product knowledge all had to met with legal and professional
accuracy.
Accomplishments
First thing I’ve been able to say I’ve strived for and received was the ability to run my
own store. With that, I was given the opportunity to do so since I’ve proven how
responsible and happy enough I could be to take care of the business. Also, I’ve shown
my dedication and loyalty to the company and empathy for my customers. I moved
from Dubuque IA to Ames IA and have motivated and encouraged myself to be able to
turn the store around to company standards. I was able to adjust the store and the
customer files to company policy and procedure policies, all while being able to build a
good reputation and respect with my customers.
I’ve also, like many payday loan companies, have had many extensive and calculated
audits and as a manager, responsibility again laid on me to pass. I’ve passed and
exceeded expectations on internal (company) audits, state (division of banking), and
Western Union (federal audits dealing with transaction practices) audits.
Skills Used
I’ve acquired many of my filing and documentation skills from what I learned in
college. I’ve taken a legal writing class as well as a legal research and analysis class.
Both have which helped me with being able to apply my abilities to the type of
requirements the company was looking for. I’ve also mostly only have had customer
service types of positions every since I was able to work at the age of 16. These are the
type of jobs that have always appealed to me because being able to meet the needs of
others is something that always motivated me and made me happy.
Focus
3. A working relationship between coworkers and clients that you’re advocating for
starts with an open line of communication. Nothing can be “fixed” or accomplished
without it.
Any professional accomplishments I believe I’ve made was being able to run my store
smoothly and responsibly without complaint or errors. I’ve attended NICC seeking a
degree for paralegal. My dream is to become a lawyer and advocate for minors and
their families. I’ve applied these skills strongly with my position as a store manager,
and it’s made me very successful in my position.
I think the most success comes from working with people different from yourself
because everyone is different in their own way, but if you have to step out of your
comfort zone, and appeal to theirs. In turn, the logical question is how can you not be
successful working with people different than you? Everyone has their own needs that
need to be met and seeking out and attending to those needs are extremely important,
especially if they don’t have the ability themselves or the resources needed. I’ve
experienced that personally every day.
Skills I believe I have to benefit others is the ability to listen, calculate, and understand
the individual’s needs, wants, and abilities. You need to be able to help someone
overwhelmed with grief, frustration, and anxiety with your complete focus and ability
to organize for them till they have the a little of the weight of their shoulders.
If you asked previous bosses about me, I’d say they tell you that I’m reliable, attentive,
seek challenges, organized, and professional.
I think a common misperception about myself is that to others I may seem either very
shy or very bold. I know they’re the complete opposite of each other but, when I say
that, I believe there are different types of emotions so, sometimes you need to
approach things differently and understand that person’s perspective.
I feel I’m a good fit for this job because people need that middle person that has an
intermediate who works with everyone. You need someone who stands on that middle
4. ground. You can speak for someone but, you also need to have the ability to really
listen and understand both sides on what’s necessary verses what’s wanted. My
immediate experience is very personal but, professional and personal are still very
important to me. It’s always formidable to make sure personal and professional stay
separate but, sometimes personal experience teaches you more because you’re behind
the scenes.
Other Skills
I’ve acquired skills over the years by attaining positive social media building and
followings. With these skills, I’m currently in charge of managing social media
accounts for a popular entrepreneur, motivational speaker, and podcast star by the
name of Brandon T Adams. I’ve built his following as he’s been building his multiple
thriving businesses. We’ve worked on building his brand, expanding partnerships, and
creating new business ventures. I’ve learned a lot from him, and hope to continue to
learn more.
On a personal level, I’ve also become dedicated to a new fitness lifestyle where I’ve
molded my abilities to suit better health and wellness needs. I am currently committed
to attaining and keeping a strong healthy physique. I go to the gym daily, using a mix
of all over body weight lifting components and cardio. I feel it’s also important that
once you make a gym commitment, you also should make an all over healthy lifestyle
in food choices as well. I’ve achieved a lot of personal goals and have become strong all
around. While it has also taught me a lot about healthy choices, it has also taught me
about form, control, relaxation, and just made me an all around happier person. I’ve
never feared hard labor and so I’m able to do multiple physical tasks that’s asked of me
as well.
Conclusion
I believe everyone is the exception, because it takes someone exceptional to make the
rule.
