Why and how agent based modeling can help economicsespenel
Economic theory seeks to explain economic facts from the behavior of individuals. In this paper, it is argued that the type of individualism methodology (IM), the economic profession should consider, is an institutional IM which includes a structural one as a special case. It follows that the mechanism leading to individual behavior can be decomposed into a social mechanism and a decision mechanism. Moreover, economic theory and game theory have generally made too restrictive assumptions concerning interactions structures. It is argued that agent-based modeling may be a useful approach for understanding processes combining heterogeneous and situated decision rules, feed-back effects and non trivial interaction structures leading to complex systems and emergent properties.

Effective leaders are believed to inspire followers by providing inclusive visions of the future that followers can identify with. In the present study, we examined the neural mechanisms underlying this process, testing key hypotheses derived from transformational and social identity approaches to leadership. While undergoing functional MRI, supporters from the two major Australian political parties (Liberal vs. Labor) were presented with inspirational collective-oriented and noninspirational personal-oriented statements made by in-group and out-group leaders. Imaging data revealed that inspirational (rather than noninspirational) statements from in-group leaders were associated with increased activation in the bilateral rostral inferior parietal lobule, pars opercularis, and posterior midcingulate cortex: brain areas that are typically implicated in controlling semantic information processing. In contrast, for out-group leaders, greater activation in these areas was associated with noninspirational statements. In addition, noninspirational statements by in-group (but not out-group) leaders resulted in increased activation in the medial prefrontal cortex, an area typically associated with reasoning

Microservices = Death of the Enterprise Service Bus (ESB)?Kai Wähner
Microservices are the next step after SOA: Services implement a limited set of functions. Services are developed, deployed and scaled independently. Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery control deployments. This way you get shorter time to results and increased flexibility.
Microservices have to be independent regarding build, deployment, data management and business domains. A solid Microservices design requires single responsibility, loose coupling and a decentralized architecture. A Microservice can to be closed or open to partners and public via APIs.
This session discusses the requirements, best practices and challenges for creating a good Microservices architecture, and if this spells the end of the Enterprise Service Bus (ESB).
Key messages of the talk:
• Microservices = SOA done right
• Integration is key for success – the product name does not matter
• Real time event correlation is the game changer
Real-time Communications at Internet SpeedBrian Pulito
Keeping Current Seminar for University of Kentucky - Abstract: What if real-time communications was born on the web? Would we use context instead of telephone numbers to initiate real-time interactions? Would quality and ubiquity be less important than flexibility and differentiation? WebRTC is changing the way people communicate in real-time. Whether it be Google Hangouts or a web startup, WebRTC is free, simple and coming to a web page near you. This discussion will focus on this emerging HTML5 standard, providing insights into how developers and businesses are using WebRTC to drive innovation in their Systems of Engagement.

IBM Rational Host Access Transformation Services (HATS) is a tool for modernizing IBM i 5250 and mainframe 3270 telnet applications. This presentation, given at IBM Innovate 2014, demonstrates how HATS can turn those green screen applications into JAX-WS or RESTful JSON web services, how to consume Program Call Markup Language (PCML) enabled IBM i Programs, and how to to integrate with databases using SQL, JDBC, and the Java Persistence API (JPA) 2.0 features of Rational Application Developer. Finally we describe using servlet filters to further enhance the abilities of the Rational HATS entry servlet.
Introducing Events and Stream Processing into Nationwide Building Society (Ro...confluent
Facing Open Banking regulation, rapidly increasing transaction volumes and increasing customer expectations, Nationwide took the decision to take load off their back-end systems through real-time streaming of data changes into Kafka. Hear about how Nationwide started their journey with Kafka, from their initial use case of creating a real-time data cache using Change Data Capture, Kafka and Microservices to how Kafka allowed them to build a stream processing backbone used to reengineer the entire banking experience including online banking, payment processing and mortgage applications. See a working demo of the system and what happens to the system when the underlying infrastructure breaks. Technologies covered include: Change Data Capture, Kafka (Avro, partitioning and replication) and using KSQL and Kafka Streams Framework to join topics and process data.

Project 2:
Title US Groceries-Wal-mart
Organization Genpact
Client IRI
Domain Retail
Duration Feb 2013 to Dec 2014
Project Description:
This project proposed to design for the Wal-Mart interface between Data Feeds and Fatwire
Staging. Data Feeds contain 3 different modules OLIF, PI/Ranging and Enrichment Data. Data feeds
are for adding the new/existing product details like Price details, images, product expiry date, etc.
on the Wal-Mart.com on daily/weekly.
OLIF is the master feed that identifies all the products which are hosted on the Wal-Mart system.
TIBCO receives the OLIF feed from ISD, transforms it based on the Fatwire OLIF xsd and uploads it
to Fatwire database server.
The Enrichment Feed contains the Product image URL’s. Tibco receives the Enrichment feed
request from Fatwire for the image links, Tibco processes the request and creates a flat file and
places in the FTP Server.
At a particular batch window time, Wal-Mart places the Enrichment Feed (image links) in the FTP
server, where in Tibco picks up and processes the feed by inserting the data into FTP Staging area.
Roles and Responsibilities:
• Developed connectors between end systems as part of the project.

Title SAM’S CLUB
Organization Genpact
Client IRI
Domain CPG & FMCG
Duration Oct 2011 Feb 2013
Description:
Sam’s club.com is an American chain of membership-only retail Warehouse clubs. It
continues to expand its business at a rapid pace and has launched new revenue streams. Sam’s
club.com IT organization needs to expand in response to increasing demand from the growing
business.
In order to better leverage the drawing power of Sam’s club.com online grocery and the
Sam’s club brand itself, Sam’s club.com is pursuing a strategy of becoming “One Sam’s club
Online”. Currently, there are separate systems for each business i.e. Grocery, Wine, electronics,
floral, apparel, food and meats. Most locations have Pharmacy, Tire and Battery, Photo, Bakery,
Optical, Café and Floral departments and they are not able to meet the “One Sam’s club Online”
objective. Hence, there is a plan to do a major restructuring of systems onto a single multichannel
architecture, accompanied by the migration of legacy shops onto this new platform.
Integration Layer enables multiple to one communication utilizing publish and subscribe
model and also enables downstream application communication using service interface.
Roles and Responsibilities:
• Extensively used TIBCO Business Works to develop business process definitions.
• Extensively used TIBCO BW to develop the business process for interface.
