About ICNA Relief
ICNA Relief's Refugee Program provides caring and compassionate service to victims of
adversities and survivors of disasters, empowering and transitioning refugee families into
a comfortable life in American society. Guided by values of compassion, dignity, integrity,
and accountability, our teams work alongside refugees to meet urgent needs and build
long-term stability.
With a national footprint serving communities in dozens of states and hundreds of
locations, volunteers and staff collaborate to deliver direct services, coordinate local
partners, and mobilize faith- and community-based networks. As a Muslim-led
humanitarian organization, we consider it a religious and moral responsibility to support
anyone in need—regardless of background—while honoring cultural and faith
sensitivities.
Volunteer-powered operations, strong local partnerships, culturally responsive care, and
a holistic approach that spans immediate relief through integration, education,
employment pathways, and wellness.
Scope and presence
What makes us different
Understanding Refugee Assistance USA
Refugee assistance USA describes the ecosystem of federal, state, local, and nonprofit
partners that help refugees rebuild their lives. Through USRAP and the Office of Refugee
Resettlement, newly arrived families receive initial reception, placement, and short-term
benefits, complemented by community organizations like ICNA Relief that provide
practical, culturally grounded support.
The U.S. set a refugee admissions ceiling of 125,000 in FY2025, reaffirming the national
commitment to welcoming those fleeing persecution. Beyond arrival, families navigate
housing, school enrollment, health coverage, documentation, language learning, and
employment—all areas where community partners bridge critical gaps.
We translate policy into practice, offering on-the-ground guidance, essential supplies,
case management, and social connection that accelerate stability and belonging.
The landscape
ICNA Relief's role
The Refugee Crisis: Needs and Challenges
Families escaping conflict or disaster often arrive with few possessions, uncertain
housing, limited English proficiency, and urgent health or legal needs. The transition can
be overwhelming: learning transit systems, enrolling children in school, understanding
local norms, and finding employment while healing from trauma.
From Afghanistan and Ukraine to Sudan and beyond, displacement continues to surge. In
January 2025, ICNA Relief highlighted emergency relief needs for refugee families facing
another round of uncertainty after flight—illustrating why rapid-response aid and
ongoing accompaniment matter.
Stabilize quickly with essentials; then build capacity through education, work, and
community integration—so families don't just survive, but thrive. ICNA Relief bridges
critical gaps between initial resettlement and long-term stability through culturally-
sensitive support services.
