Ted Bundy was a serial killer born in 1946 in Vermont. He was raised believing his grandparents were his parents and his mother was his sister. In high school he was a good student but socially awkward. He later attended the University of Washington and law school in Utah. Beginning in 1974, Bundy went on a multi-state killing spree, murdering dozens of women in Washington, Utah, and Colorado by bludgeoning, strangulation, and sexual assault. He escaped from prison twice but was eventually apprehended in 1978 in Florida and executed in 1989.

Ted Bundy began killing in the late 1960s or early 1970s, though the earliest confirmed murders were in 1974 in Washington state. He went on to kill numerous young women across Washington, Utah, Colorado, and Idaho in 1974-1975. Bundy was arrested in 1975 in Utah for kidnapping and escaped from prison twice before being convicted and executed in 1989 for the murders of three women in Florida in 1978.

Presented here is the description of a serial homicide investigation in the 1960s that involved
the sexually motivated murders of seven mostly college-aged women in Michigan. The
discussion provided here draws primarily on Edward Keyes’s, The Michigan Murders.1 The
case is longer and more detailed than the other From the Case File chapter introductions.
It can serve as a capstone discussion of many of the issues covered in Criminal Investigation,
including the basic problems of criminal investigation, the value of eyewitness identifica-
tions, the value of other evidence, the potential value of DNA evidence, how proof can be
established, and the impact of technology on investigations. Questions for discussion and
review are presented at the conclusion of the case.

Capstone CASE
The Coed Murders
The nightmare began on the evening of July 10, 1967,
when nineteen-year-old Mary Fleszar did not return
to her apartment, which was located just a few
blocks from the Eastern Michigan University (EMU)
campus in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Mary was a student at
the university. As is the case in most missing person
investigations, the first task for investigators was to
determine when and where she was last seen. In
reconstructing the last known whereabouts of Mary,
an EMU police officer recalled seeing a girl matching
her description walking near campus at about
8:45 p.m. the night before she was reported missing.
She was alone. Another witness reported he had seen
the girl at about 9:00 p.m. that same night in the same
area, walking on the sidewalk. The witness reported
that a car had driven up next to her and stopped.
According to report the witness gave, the only person
in the vehicle was a young man, and the vehicle was
bluish-gray in color, possibly a Chevy. The witness said
it appeared that the young man inside the car said
something to Mary, she shook her head, and the car
drove off. Shortly thereafter, the same car passed the
witness’s house again and pulled into a driveway in
front of Mary, blocking her path. Mary walked around
the back of the car and continued down the sidewalk.
The car pulled out of the driveway and, tires squealing,
drove down the street. At this point the witness lost
sight of Mary and the vehicle. Mary was never again
seen alive.
On August 7, 1967, a heavily decomposed nude body
was found on farmland two miles north of Ypsilanti.
The body was identified as Mary Fleszar through
dental records. It was clear to investigators that the
cause of death was certainly not natural, accidental,
or suicide, given the area.
State of Indiana v/ Richard Allen
- Victim 1 and Victim 2, two juvenile females, were found deceased in a wooded area near a bridge in Carroll County, Indiana on February 14, 2017.
- Video from Victim 2's phone shows them encountering a male on a bridge who tells them "down the hill" in a threatening manner.
- Witnesses place a male matching the description in the video at the scene around the time of the victims' disappearance.
- The deaths were ruled homicides. Clothing was found in a creek and an unspent bullet was found near one of the victims.
Zodiac
The zodiac killer terrorized the San Francisco area in the late 1960s with a series of unsolved murders and cryptic messages to police. Some of the confirmed victims included teenagers David Faraday and Betty Lou Jensen who were shot on their first date, as well as taxi driver Paul Stine who was shot point blank. The killer sent taunting letters and coded ciphers to newspapers to boast of the crimes. Despite extensive investigations and several suspects, the zodiac killer was never identified and the case remains unsolved.

These cases are becoming more controversial as the number of child killings increases every year. However, what happens if that innocent and vulnerable-looking child is the one responsible for the abduction and murders in your neighborhood? Would you believe the accusations made of someone so young? Could a child really commit such crimes? These are not your typical childish crimes of stealing toys from a friend, or bullying a schoolmate. This is the list for the top 10 young killers. There is a small amount of overlap from the list of evil children, for the sake of including people that really do deserve to be on this list.

Eric Smith

“You may think I’m a threat to the well-being of society. And I can understand why you would feel that way. The fact is that I’m not. I’d be an asset to society.”
At 13, Eric Smith was bullied because of his thick glasses, freckles, long red hair and one other quality: He had protruding, elongated ears. These were believed to be a side effect of medicine his mother had taken for her epilepsy when she was pregnant. Police charged Smith with the murder of a four-year-old boy named Derrick Robie. The younger child had been strangled, had large rocks dropped on his head, and had been sodomized with a small stick. When asked why he did it, Smith cannot give a definite answer. A psychiatrist diagnosed Smith with intermittent explosive disorder, a condition in which a person cannot control inner rage. Smith was convicted and went to prison. As of today, he’s been in prison for six years and has been denied parole five times.

What started as a regular room cleaning ended with the conviction of a 14-year-old boy named Joshua Phillips. His mother went to clean up his room one morning after Phillips left for school. Mrs. Phillips noticed a wet spot under her son’s bed and thought it was a leak from his waterbed. As she was investigating the bed to see if it needed to be drained, she found electrical tape holding the frame together. She thought her son had known the about leak but didn’t want to get into trouble. She removed enough tape to discover her son’s sock underneath, but she was surprised to feel something cold. The beam of her flashlight showed her the dead body of Maddie Clifton, an 8-year-old neighbor who had been missing for seven days.

Michael Hernandez, age 14, lured his friend Jaime Rodrigo Gough, also 14, into a school bathroom stall where he fatally stabbed him with a knife. Jasmine Richardson, age 12, and her 23-year-old boyfriend Jeremy Steinke murdered Jasmine's parents and 8-year-old brother. Eric Smith, age 13, strangled and killed a 4-year-old boy and was diagnosed with intermittent explosive disorder.

MILES JOHNSON (TELEVISION REPORTER): Police report that a local man
was gunned down in the parking lot of Fred’s Mart in the 7,500 block of North
Ridge Road. An employee reportedly found the man’s body on fire on the hood
of the car.
DAN MILLER (WITNESS): I came outside during my break, and I noticed
immediately the smell of something burning. So I kind of turned the corner, and
when I did I noticed that there was a body on the hood of a car, and it was on
fire.
There were two gentlemen next to the car. As soon as they saw me the one
dropped a gas can and then kicked it across the parking lot, and then they took
off. I knew who they were. I had gone to high school with these guys, so I
recognized them immediately. So I called the cops, and I gave them a
description.
MILES JOHNSON: After a brief chase two suspects, Bill Brown (18) and James
Xavier (17), were arrested and brought to the Middletown Police Station.
CAPTAIN RUBY SIMMS: We have identified two suspects and transported them
to the Middletown Police Station. The victim’s family has been identified and his
identity will be released to the public later this afternoon.

Beautiful Girl by Mr. Brainwash is a mixed media artwork on paper done in 2023. It is unique and of course signed by Mr. Brainwash. The picture is a tribute to his own most successful work of art, the Balloon Girl. In this new creation, however, the theme of the little girl is slightly modified.
In Mr. Brainwash’s mixed media artwork titled “Beautiful Girl,” we are presented with a captivating depiction of a little girl adorned in a summer dress, with two playful pigtails framing her face. Teen Found Dead In Car Trunk Grave Secrets starts their story in June of 2000 with the discovery of Devon Guzman’s dead body, which was found in her car trunk at Hugh Moore Park Canal off Route 611 in Easton, Pennsylvania. When police came out to the scene, they found the 19-year-old woman sprawled on the backseat with a jacket covering the top portion of her body. A knife and an empty syringe were also found at the scene.

- 11. A man who drowned his friend in a farm pond after they took drugs has pleaded guilty to manslaughter. Christopher Davies, 28, was on a fishing trip with his colleague Barry O'Reilly, 37, in May when he fell ill after Mr O'Reilly offered him Spice. Davies, of Town Lane, Higher Bebington, then lost control and became violent before attacking and drowning his friend at Claremont Farm in Wirral. He will be sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court on Wednesday. Then known as a "legal high", the supply of Spice - a synthetic cannabinoid that acts like cannabis - has since been banned after a law came into force on 26 May. However taking the drug is not illegal. In an impact statement, Mr O'Reilly's ex-partner described him as "wonderful father", adding "when you take a life... you destroy a whole world". Davies denied murder but prosecutors accepted his plea of manslaughter on the grounds of a "loss of control”.The defence said he deeply regretted what happened.
