Important Instructions for Report Writing for M E (Mechanical) Seminar II

1.    Prepare 1 (Each per Student) + 1 (Guide) + 1(Department Library) seminar
      report. For example per student group 3 copies are required.
2.    Limit the project report to Maximum 20 pages.
3.    Footer
      i. “SCOE, Mechanical Engineering 2008-09”
      ii. Times New Roman, 10 pt, Centrally aligned.
      iii. Insert page number on next line of footer, center aligned, Times New
           Roman, 10 pt.
4.    Report :
      i. Main part of report should be Times New Roman, 12 pt, justified, 1.5
           line spacing
      ii. Paper Size A4 (8.5” x 11” ( 210 x 197 mm)
      iii. Margins
               Top         : 1” (25 mm)           Bottom          : 1.32” (34 mm)
               Right       : 1” (25 mm)           Left            : 1.5” (37 mm)
      iv. Paragraph
           Line spacing 1.5
           Double space between two paragraphs
           Each paragraph shall begin with five space indentation.
           Times New Roman; 12 pt, Justified
      v. Titles (No chapters in seminar report)
           Section Titles
                   Bold, 14 pt; Times New Roman; Center aligned; Title Case
           Sub Section Headings
                   Bold, 12 pt; Capital (Upper Case); Left aligned;
           Sub Sub Section Titles
                   Bold, 12pt; Title Case; Left aligned;
5.    Illustrations (Charts, drawings, photographs, figures) are to be in the text.
      Use only illustrations really pertinent to the text. Illustrations must be
      sharp, clear, black and white, (Illustrations downloaded from internet are
      not acceptable.)
      i. Illustrations should not be more than two per page
      ii. Figure (and graph) No and title at bottom, Times New Roman 10 pt,
           center aligned
      iii. Graph Legends - below the title in Times New Roman 10 pt
      iv. Table Titles and no at top, Times New Roman 10 pt, left aligned
      v. Table, figures and graphs are to be center aligned.
      vi. Photographs if any should be on glossy prints
      vii. Blue prints if any are to be attached at end of report
6.    Only SI system of units shall be followed in all calculations. Units other
      than SI units may be placed in brackets.
7.    References should be in the alphabetical order by last name of first author.
      In case of one (or two) authors, write name and for more than two write
      first author with et. al.
8.    Symbols and notations if any should be included in nomenclature section
      only.
9.    Following will be order of report.
      i. Cover page and front page as per specimen on separate sheet.
      ii. Certificate from Institute as per specimen on separate sheet
      iii. Certificate from Industry on separate sheet
      iv. Acknowledgement
      v. List of figures
      vi. List of tables
      vii. List of plates
      viii.Nomenclature
      ix. Contents
      x. Abstract (A brief abstract of the report not more than 300 words. The
           heading “Abstract” should be bold, Times New Roman 12 pt, centrally
           aligned. Contents of abstract should be on new line without
           indentation.)

      xi. Appendices are not allowed.
10.   All section heading and subheadings should be numbered. For sections
      use numbers 1, 2, 3, .. and for sub section use 1.1, 1.2 etc. and sub sub

11.   References should be given in the body of the text and well spread. No
      verbatim copy or excessive text from only one or two references. If
      figures and tables are taken from any reference then indicate source of it.
