Eg 1: The chef who won the competition studied

Eg 2: The woman who called you is here.
Eg 3: She is the bank teller who helped us open

‘Who’ is used when referring to people
Where
Eg 1: A castle is a place where the king or queen
lives.
Eg 2: The city where the "flower children" lived, is
a colourful city.
Eg 3: The Artic is where the penguins live.
‘Where’ is used when referring to a place
That/Which
Eg 1: The shirt that Carl bought has a stain on the
pocket.
Eg 2: Sally's new car, which is green, is very
expensive.
Eg 3: The rhino that hid behind the television was
missing for days.
Eg 4: The flowers which grow in the garden are
beautiful.
‘That’/‘Which’ is used when referring to things
and animals

the phone
‘Whose’ is used to show something belongs to
or is part of a person or thing
Eg 2: The family whose house burnt in the fire was
immediately given a suite in a hotel.
Eg 2: This is the man whose house is on fire.

teaches.
Combining sentences using

A teacher is a person who teaches.
Eg 2: My mp3 player fell apart after a few weeks.
My mp3 player cost over £200.
My mp3 player, which cost over £200 fell apart
after a few weeks.
Eg 3: The car was stolen. The car was a BMW.
The car that was stolen was a BMW.
The car which was stolen was a BMW.
Eg 4: That's the building. I work there.
That’s the building where I work.
Eg 5: That's the boy. His mother works in the post
office.
That's the boy whose mother works in the post office.
