Pet therapy can provide various benefits for patients such as decreasing anxiety and loneliness, improving fine motor skills and movement, and increasing verbal communication and self-esteem. It can also help reduce pain, anxiety, depression and fatigue by lowering heart rate, blood pressure and stress hormones while improving mood. For elderly patients, pet therapy has been shown to combat loneliness, lack of energy and social interaction by stimulating the mind and releasing feel-good hormones through petting dogs or watching fish tanks.
