To Whom it may Concern;
ERIC ASHWELL‘s degree of professionalism, detail orientation and tact far exceeds
anyone else with whom I have worked on construction projects. I cannot
recommend ERIC ASHWELL more highly.
We have worked with Eric for 5 years in both emergency and planned situations.
Eric remained calm and focused; in fact, one could not tell the difference in his
response!
Eric’s communication and explanatory skills in addition to his soft ”people” skills are
really remarkable; clear, concise, consistent and always calm. I do not believe I have
ever seen Eric angry, or frustrated with people or events.
Eric used a very basic sequence in working with us: He told us the problem,
explained it, presented options, explained each and then made a recommendation if
asked. He then told us what he was going to do, then did it, and then told us he did it
and what happened. His consistency in this approach allowed us to develop trust in
his professional judgment and in him personally.
Eric was the project manager on two major (kitchen and MBR/Bath reconstruction)
and two minor remodeling projects in our pre Civil War abused home, cumulatively
totaling a half a million US dollars. We worked with two different architectural firms
and multiple subs. Eric’s job, as I understood it, was to run the project so that it
minimally interfered with our lives, and that it was predictable and controllable for
us. Eric was responsible for logistics and target dates, supervision of subs, materials
and workers, and budgetary control. On the smaller projects, when we did not work
with an architect, Eric was additionally responsible for all the planning and design,
material specifications and aesthetics. I cannot speak more highly of his competence
and completion in these tasks, and in his ability to complete the punch list in a
timely manner and with customer satisfaction.
Eric’s skills were tested in our home; no one day ever went as planned. With each
project, demolition brought utterly surprising, often unsafe, shortcuts and mistakes
made in previous constructions. Framing was either inappropriately done, or non-
existent. Electric wires were found ungrounded embedded in wet insulation, The
house presented complex geometric and trigonometric problems, necessitating
changes in room shapes and support, which then flowed down to cabinetry and
appliance installation. Eric had to respond and solve these problems on site, in full
view of waiting subs and workers. He did this with élan, developing clever plans of
action, keeping in mind the inconvenience of the subs and of our family.
2. Eric’s unique combination of professional skills and people skills was demonstrated
in how he managed and drove the team. Eric’s boss, a nice person, had trouble with
time management and loquaciousness and distraction. Eric had to manage his boss,
especially during team meetings with the client and with the client and the architect.
Eric handled this potentially fraught interaction with grace and humor, structuring
and driving the meetings, corralling his boss in a gentle, seamless and non-
threatening way. Eric also had to manage my time-pressured husband’s frustration
with Eric’s boss; again tactfully and gracefully done.
I highly recommend ERIC ASHWELL, and would work with him again with no
hesitation.
